Xbox One is the next generation console from Microsoft. With it, you can simultaneously play games, browse the Internet, listen to music and even watch TV. Setting up a set-top box for the first time is pretty straightforward.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Connecting a set-top box

1. 1 Find all connections. The Xbox One has several connection cables that you need to connect to your box first. These include a Kinect sensor, an Internet connection, and a receiver for watching TV on an Xbox One.
2. 2 Connect the Internet. Before you start doing anything, you need to make sure your console is connected to the Internet. You can connect to the Internet using a wired method using an Ethernet cable, or wirelessly if you have a WiFi router.
3. 3 Connect to your TV. Connect your console to your TV using an HDMI cable. Plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT port on the back of the console. Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI connector on your TV. If you have cable or satellite TV, you can connect another HDMI cable to the console and receiver to watch cable or satellite TV.
4. 4 Connect your Kinect sensor. Plug the Kinect into the appropriate port on the back of your Xbox One. This port is located between the USB ports and the IR port.
   • The Kinect sensor cable has a fixed length of three meters, so install the sensor within that distance from the console.
5. 5 Connect your console to power. Take the power cord, plug it into a power outlet and into the back of the console. This connector will be on the far left of the back of the console. Then plug the power cord into the adapter. Finally, plug the other end of the cord into a power outlet.
   • The power light on the Xbox One will turn on to indicate that power is being supplied to the console.

Part 2 of 3: Performing Basic Setup

1. 1 Turn on your Xbox One. You can turn on the console using a wired gamepad. Simply hold down the Home button on your controller to turn on both the console and controller at the same time.
   • You can also touch the front of the Xbox One (where the logo is) to turn on the console.
   • If you have a wireless controller, be sure to insert batteries into the controller before attempting to start the console.
   • Except for the initial setup, the Kinect sensor can also be used to launch the console. You can turn on the Xbox One through the sensor by saying “Turn on Xbox” within sensor range.
2. 2 Follow the instructions on the screen. The first thing you'll see on the screen will be the Xbox One logo on a green background.Wait a moment while the console processes the information to then provide you with instructions on the initial setup.
   • In the first instruction, you will have to press the A button to continue. You will see this instruction as a controller on the screen. After that, Xbox One will greet you for the first time.
3. 3 Choose language. There are many languages ​​available for selection, including English, German, Spanish. To see the entire selection, just scroll down. Select the language you want and then press "A".
   • You will notice how the text on the screen is automatically translated into the language of your choice as a preview.
4. 4 Please enter your country. Depending on the language you choose, Xbox One will present you with options to select your country.
5. 5 Select your network settings. You can choose wired connection or WiFi (wireless) connection. For stable performance, it is better to choose a wired connection.
   • When choosing a wireless connection, you will need to provide your router's password to access it.
   • If the console cannot find your router for some reason, press Y on your controller to refresh the search.
6. 6 Download console updates. Since this is an initial setup, you'll need to download the required updates for your Xbox One. You will need an Internet connection to download the update, which weighs approximately 500MB.
   • After the update, your console will restart automatically.

Part 3 of 3: Advanced Customization

1. 1 Enter your time zone. After restarting your Xbox One, you will be asked to press the Home button on your controller to continue with the setup. Please specify your time zone first. Again, the default selection will depend on the country you specified earlier.
2. 2 Set up your Kinect sensor. By setting up your Kinect sensor, you can automatically log in through sensor recognition, control the console with voice and hand movements, communicate with other Kinect users, and control your TV.
   • Remember to connect a microphone to your console so that you can accurately measure its volume when setting up Kinect.
   • Be silent when asked by the instructions. This will affect the sensor setting.
3. 3 Sign in to your Microsoft account. To do this, you can use the password and email address associated with your gamertag. If you don't have an existing tag, you can use Skype, Outlook.com, Windows 8, or Windows phone accounts instead.
   • If you do not have an account from the suggested alternatives, you will have to create a new account with Microsoft to continue.
4. 4 Accept the Xbox Live Licensing Agreement. Read and agree to the Xbox License Agreement. After that, you will be entitled to the protection of personal data.
5. 5 Change the look. You will be able to change the color for the console color theme. After choosing a color, you will see a preview of how the panel will look.
6. 6 Save your password. Before exiting setup, Xbox One will ask you if you want to save your password. It is recommended that you do this so that the console does not ask for a password every time you log in, but if you are concerned about who may be using your console then do not guard the password.
   • You will also be asked if you want to be signed in automatically after the Kinect sensor recognizes you.
7. 7 Complete the setup. Now press the Home button on your controller to complete the setup and navigate to the Xbox One dashboard with your chosen color theme. Enjoy the services provided by your new Xbox!
