The knitted beanie is a warm hat that is generally made of wool. It fits snugly around the head and the end may or may not be rolled up or turned over to create an edge. It is one of the easiest hats to knit, and therefore ideal for the novice knitter.

To step

Method 1 of 4: Start with the beanie

1. Use 5 1/2 mm needles to make this beanie.
2. Cast on 90 stitches.
3. First row: * 2r, 1a, repeat from * to the end.
4. The first row forms the pattern. Continue in this pattern until the hat measures 23 cm.

Method 2 of 4: Form the top

1. 1st round: * 2r, knit 2 together, 1r, 1a, rep. from * to the end.
2. 2nd round: 2r, 1a, 1r, 1a, rep. from * to the end.
3. 3rd round: Q4, * Knit 2 together, Q3, rep. from * to the last stitch, 1a.
4. 4th round: 2r, 1a, * 1r, 1a, rep. from * to the end.
5. 5th round: Sc 1, * Knit 2 together, Sc 2, rep. from * to last 4 sts, knit 2 together, qr, 1a.
6. 6th round: 2r, * 2a, 1r, rep. from * to last 2 sts, 2a.
7. 7th round: * Knit 2 together, ch 1, rep. from * to last st, 1a.
8. 8th round: Purl 2 together, rep. from * to last st, 1a.

Method 3 of 4: Finishing the beanie

1. When you are done knitting, leave a good length of thread on your project. With this you can finish the hat.
2. Pull the dangling thread through the remaining stitches. Put it on and tie it off. Trim the remaining end for a neat finish.
3. Use the backstitch to sew the seam closed.
4. Ready. The beanie is now finished. You can keep it as it is now, or you can decorate it with embroidery, ribbon or buttons.

Method 4 of 4: Abbreviations

• r = straight
• a = purl
• st / sts = stitches
• knit together = knit stitches at once as if it were one. So less you sting.
• repeat = repeat

Tips

• It is better not to iron the beanie.
• Remember this is just one way to knit a beanie. You can go all out with other patterns, types of knitting wool and / or decorations.

• Knitting yarn - 3 balls of wool or a wool blend of 50g
