Strawberries and bananas are a classic combination. You can make a milkshake from it, based on vanilla ice cream, but why not even use it in a smoothie instead? You make a smoothie with yogurt or milk and ice cubes and is therefore a lot lighter and healthier than a milkshake. Once you've mastered the basic techniques for making a classic smoothie, you can start experimenting with your own additions and variations, such as a tropical strawberry-banana smoothie!

Ingredients

Milk-based smoothie

For 2 glasses:

  • 150 grams of strawberries
  • 1 banana
  • A quarter liter (250 ml) of (skim or semi-skimmed) milk
  • If desired, 50 grams of sugar or a sugar substitute
  • 6 to 8 ice cubes

Smoothie based on yogurt

For 2 glasses:

  • 300 grams of strawberries
  • 1 banana
  • 250 grams (if desired low-fat) Greek yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar, honey, or another sweetener
  • 140 grams of ice cubes (optional)

To step

Method 1 of 3: Make a milk-based smoothie

  1. Pour the smoothie into the glasses and serve immediately. Divide the smoothie over two tall glasses. Garnish each glass with a slice of strawberry or banana if desired and serve the drink immediately.

Method 2 of 3: Make a yogurt-based smoothie

  1. Prepare the bananas and strawberries and put them in a blender. Peel one banana and cut it into 1 inch long pieces. Wash about 300 grams of strawberries, de-crown them and cut them into slices. Put the strawberries in the blender together with the banana.
  2. Add 250 grams of (low-fat) Greek yogurt. Of course you can also use regular low-fat or full-fat yogurt. For a nice and sweet smoothie, try vanilla yogurt.
  3. Add 2 teaspoons of sweetener of your choice. Honey provides the best flavor, but you can also take agave syrup, strawberry lemonade syrup or regular sugar if necessary. Only if you use vanilla yogurt you probably no longer need any additional sweetener.
  4. If necessary, add some ice to thicken the smoothie. It will not be necessary, because the smoothie will become quite thick by itself, but if you want you can add a maximum of 140 grams of ice cubes.
  5. Let the blender run until everything is well mixed. This takes a maximum of 45 seconds. If the ingredients are not mashed properly, turn off the blender and use a rubber spatula to scrape any unmashed fruit from the sides to the bottom.
  6. Taste and adjust the thickness if necessary. Taste the smoothie quickly. If it is not sweet enough, add some extra sweetener. If the mixture is too thick, add another dash of milk. If the smoothie is too thin, add a few ice cubes. Do not forget to run the blender again when you have added something.
  7. Serve the smoothie. Divide the smoothie evenly between two tall glasses. Put a straw in each glass and serve the drink immediately. For a more upscale smoothie, slide a slice of banana or strawberry over the rim of each glass.

Method 3 of 3: Try other recipes

  1. For a vegan variation, replace the yogurt, milk and ice cubes with frozen bananas. First puree the strawberries in a blender and then add the bananas. Let the blender run until everything is evenly mixed and taste the result. If necessary, add a sweetener of your choice and run the blender one last time. Divide the smoothie between two glasses or cups and serve the drink immediately.
    • 4 frozen and sliced bananas
    • 300 grams sliced strawberries
    • 2 tablespoons (50 grams) agave syrup or (date) honey (optional)
  2. Give the orange juice smoothie a tropical touch. Put all ingredients in a blender. If you'd like a thicker, colder smoothie, try frozen bananas. Puree all ingredients in the blender until smooth and then pour the smoothie into two glasses. Serve the drinks immediately.
    • 2 sliced bananas
    • 150 grams of sliced strawberries
    • 1/8 liter (125 ml) of orange juice
    • 165 grams of low-fat vanilla yogurt
  3. Use frozen strawberries and orange juice for an exotic vegan smoothie. Put the ingredients listed below in a blender. Let the blender run for about 1 minute until everything is blended into a smooth consistency; turn the blender off and, if necessary, scrape anything that is not yet pureed from the sides to the bottom. Pour the smoothie into a tall glass and serve the drink immediately.
    • 220 grams of frozen and sliced strawberries
    • 1 sliced banana
    • a quarter liter (125 ml) of orange juice
  4. For extra fiber and a nice firm texture, add some oatmeal. Put all the ingredients listed below in a blender. Let the blender run until everything is smoothly mashed. You may have to stop the blender every now and then and use a rubber spatula to scrape any un-mashed ingredients from the sides to the bottom. Divide the smoothie into two tall glasses and serve the drink immediately.
    • 250 ml unsweetened almond milk or regular low-fat or semi-skimmed milk
    • 125 grams of (low-fat) plain or Greek yogurt
    • 300 grams of frozen and sliced strawberries
    • 1½ ripe medium banana, sliced
    • 40 grams (raw or pre-cooked) oatmeal
    • 1 tablespoon (20 grams) of honey
    • ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
  5. For an extra dose of protein, use yogurt and chia seeds. Put everything listed below in a blender. Run the blender until you have a smooth mixture. Switch off the blender every now and then and scrape the walls with a rubber spatula. Add more honey if desired and then pour the smoothie into a tall glass. Serve immediately.
    • 250 grams of plain or Greek yogurt
    • 120 ml of milk of your choice
    • 220 grams of frozen and sliced strawberries
    • 1 sliced banana
    • 10 grams of chia seeds
    • 1 teaspoon of honey
  6. Try a vegan smoothie for a change. Mix the chia seeds with 120 ml of the almond milk and put the mixture in the fridge for 10 minutes. Put the bananas in the blender with the rest of the almond milk and puree them. Then add the strawberries and run the blender again. Add the chia seed mixture and puree in a blender until smooth. Pour the smoothie into two glasses and serve the drink immediately.
    • 2 tablespoons (20 grams) of chia seeds
    • 350 ml almond milk, in two portions (120 ml and 240 ml)
    • 2 medium bananas, frozen and sliced
    • 350 grams of frozen and sliced strawberries
  7. For a more filling "meal drink", make a smoothie bowl. Put the frozen banana, strawberries and coconut milk together in the blender and puree until smooth. Pour the mixture into a bowl and garnish with slices of fresh strawberry and banana. Add a handful of freeze-dried strawberries and banana, and finally sprinkle with some chia seeds. Garnish the smoothie with these last ingredients as nicely as you can and enjoy!
    • 1 frozen banana
    • 200-250 grams of frozen and sliced strawberries
    • 120 ml unsweetened coconut milk

Tips

  • If you don't have a blender, you can use a food processor or hand blender instead.
  • The longer you run the blender with the ingredients, the more foamy the result.
  • Adjust the proportions and quantities to your personal taste.
  • For a slightly thicker smoothie, use frozen strawberries and frozen banana instead of ice.

Necessities

  • Blender, food processor (food processor) or hand blender
