Sometimes when you are hopelessly lost, it is better to die and return home safely. Before doing this, make sure you know how to find your items. If you want to die in the perfect way, you can choose from a variety of ways, from simple to impressive.

Method 1 of 3: Dying without losing any items

1. Choose your death. Death is never far away in Minecraft. Read about how to die in the section below. But if you don't want to lose all your items, read this section first.
2. Put your items in a chest. Make a chest out of eight wooden planks. Place the chest on the ground and then transfer all of your valuable items in your inventory to the chest.
   • In single player you have to place the chest somewhere you can easily find it, such as on top of a hill.
   • In multiplayer you have to dig in the chest to hide it from other players. Mark the spot with a torch so you know where to dig later.
   • If you have OP rights (Cheats), you can also use the command / gamerule keepInventory true to keep your inventory.
3. Find out what your coordinates are. These coordinates tell you your exact location in the world. Check them out while standing next to your chest:
   • In Minecraft for Windows or Mac you have to F3 to press. (If this doesn't work you should click Fn+F3 to press.)
   • In Minecraft for the Xbox or PlayStation you have to make a map, take it and use it.
   • There is a way to find out coordinates in Minecraft Pocket Edition. Go to the game settings and scroll down until you find the slider "Show Coordinates". Slide it to the other side and there should be three pairs of numbers at the top of your screen when you return to the game.
4. Write down your coordinates. Write down the X, Y, and Z values ​​that appear as text at the top of the screen or on the map. Use a real piece of paper, not the chat screen.
5. Kill yourself. Kill yourself any way you like. Many methods are explained in the next section below.
6. Check your coordinates. After you die, you reappear next to the bed you last slept in, or at the point where you first entered the game. Use the method described above to see your coordinates. Write these down too, so you don't get lost again.
7. Use the coordinates to find the chest with your items. Walk around with your coordinates displayed on the screen and watch the X, Y and Z values ​​change. Find out which direction you need to walk for these values ​​to approach the coordinates you wrote down earlier. As soon as you have arrived at your destination, you have to check where your box is. Take out your items and walk back to where you appeared in the game, using the same method.
   • X and Z are the North / South and East / West coordinates. Make sure you get these to the correct values ​​first.
   • The Y value tells you how far above or below sea level you are. You can usually ignore this value, except in cases where you died somewhere underground or on a steep mountain slope.
8. Keep your items. If you have commands enabled, you can type the command "/ gamerule keepInventory true" in the chat screen. This way you keep your items even after dying.

Method 2 of 3: Dying in Survival or Adventure mode

1. Fall a long distance. You will damage yourself if you jump off a high cliff. You may need to do this several times in a row if only small hills are available.
   • If you have a lot of mud or other worthless blocks, you can construct a tower to jump from. Look at the floor beneath your feet and jump several times, placing a block below you on each jump.
2. Chock under sand or gravel. Dig a well that is three blocks deep. Jump in and place two blocks of sand or gravel over your head. These will fall on top of you and cover your head, taking damage until you die.
3. Drown. You can drown in water that is at least two blocks deep. Step in until you are underwater and wait until all your air bubbles are gone. You should see this next to your hearts.
   • If you want to be able to die an honorable wet kill whenever you want, you must carry a bucket of water with you. Dig a well that is two blocks deep, pour in the bucket to fill the well, then jump into your private death sauna.
4. Kill yourself with a cactus. Run into a cactus several times to suffer the death of a thousand spines. When playing multiplayer, the chat feature will show everyone the message "pricked to death" related to you.
5. Dig for lava. Usually you will find lava far below the surface. Explore a cave or simply dig straight down and hope for a fiery ending.
6. Set yourself on fire in Survival Mode. If you are lost in the wilderness, you can retaliate by starting a forest fire. Note that this not works in Adventure mode. Below is a guide that explains step by step how to create your highly personal funeral pyre:
   • Break gravel with a shovel until you find a piece of flint.
   • Mine iron with a stone pickaxe. You can find iron on the surface, but it is much more common deeper into the ground.
   • Make a furnace and use it to smelt iron ore until you have iron ingots left.
   • From the iron and flint make the utensil flint and sharpening steel.
   • Use the flint and sharpening steel to burn the top of any solid log or the sides of combustible logs such as wood. Walk into the fire to kill yourself.
7. Find monsters. Enemy mobs appear at night and deep underground. Run to the first mob you see. He will be so kind as to kill you.
   • If you play single player you have to set the difficulty level to Hard via the Settings menu.
   • The black, tentacled "Endermen" will not be hostile to you until you face their right.
8. Shine with a flashy death. If you want to die in a flashy way, try the following:
   • Make a monster trap and stand in the middle of it.
   • Build a cannon with controls in the path of a fire.
   • Make TNT from 5 gunpowder and 4 sand and then blow it up with fire. You can find gunpowder by killing creepers, ghasten or witches.

Method 3 of 3: Dying in Creative mode

1. Dig below the world of Minecraft for PC. Dig straight down until you break through the foundation. Float through it and stay out of the world in the Void until you die. You can't break through the foundation in Minecraft in the console and mobile versions (Survival Mode only), so this is only possible if you're playing on a computer.
2. Use the kill command in Minecraft for PC. This is not possible in the Pocket Edition or the console edition. Follow the instructions below:
   • Open the chat screen with T. or /.
   • Type kill and hit Enter.
   • If nothing happens you should temporarily enable cheats and try again. In single player you have to go on Esc Press to open the menu and select Open to LAN → Allow Cheats → Start LAN World.
3. In other versions, enter the Void. If you play Minecraft on a cell phone, tablet or game console, there is only one way to kill yourself. Here it comes:
   • Select End Portal Frames in the "Decorative Blocks" section. Place them so that they form a square of four by four blocks, with no corners.
   • Create an End Portal by placing an Ender Eye in each of the 12 portal frames. You can find this item in the "Miscellaneous" section.
   • Wait for the black portal to appear in the square and then go through it.
   • Once in the End area you have to walk over the edge of the land and sink down. Once you get 65 blocks below sea level you start taking damage and then you die.

Tips

• Write down the coordinates of your home's location after returning to the world so that you don't get lost again.
• You can also use the Keep Inventory cheat. This way you keep your items, so you don't have to run back to the place where you killed you every time.
• Since there is lava deep underground, if you dig straight down in Survival mode, you should come across lava. Jump in to die.
• Eating something poisonous, such as a poisonous potato or poison, will dramatically decrease your health at a fatal rate.

Warnings

• If you don't have a bed at home, you don't return to it after you die. If you don't have a bed, it is better to just build a new house and then try to find your old one.
