Android supports multiple languages, which can be useful for people who know more than one language. However, it is not very useful if you order an Android device in China or Taiwan and the system is set to Chinese when you receive it. Fortunately, it is not difficult to change the language of an Android. You can even change the language of the keyboard, as well as the language used for voice searches.

Part 1 of 3: Changing the display language

1. Open the settings app. If your Android device is set to a different language, look for the gear icon in the App Drawer.
2. Select the option Language and input. If your Android is set to a different language, look for the icon with an A in a square.
3. Select the option Language. If your Android is set to a different language, it is good to know that this option is always the first option after you click Language and input pressed.
4. Select your language. The menu shows all available languages ​​in their own language. Tap on the language you want to use.
5. Set the spell check language. Android includes a spell checker that is independent of the keyboard. When using this feature, you may need to change the language you set.
   • Tap the settings button to the left of the spell check option below the Language-option.
   • Tap the globe icon next to your spell checker. A language list will then open. Select Use system language at the top of the list to use the previously set system language.
6. Use your device in the new language. All system menus and apps should now be displayed in the new language. Note that it is up to the app developer to determine whether an app supports different languages, so not all apps will be translated correctly.

Part 2 of 3: Changing the input language

1. Open the settings app and select Language and input. Your keyboard may be set to a different language than the language of the system. You can change the language of the keyboard to Language and input-menu.
2. Press the settings button next to your active keyboard. Multiple keyboards may appear. Your default keyboard is displayed below the Default-option.
   • The settings button already looks like three sliders.
   • Press the option Languages. You will then see a language list.
3. Select the language you want to type in. You can choose the option Use system language or go to the list and manually set the desired language. You cannot manually set a language if you are using the system language.
   • If your keyboard doesn't support the language you want, you may need to download a different keyboard from the Google Play Store. Search "your language keyboard".
4. Add the text-correcting dictionary. If you choose an input language that you have not used before, you may need to download the text-correcting dictionary for that language separately.
   • Press on the Text correctionoption in your keyboard settings.
   • Press the option Add dictionary.
   • Tap the dictionary you want to install, then tap install button that appears.
5. Switch between languages ​​while typing. If you have multiple input languages ​​installed, you can switch between the languages ​​on your keyboard. Find the globe icon on your keyboard to switch between languages.
   • The exact process of switching between languages ​​depends on the keyboard you are using. With SwiftKey, for example, you can type in all installed languages, without having to switch constantly. On other keyboards, holding down the space key is the way to switch between languages.

Part 3 of 3: Changing the Google Now language

1. Open the Google settings app. You will find this in you App Drawer if you use the Google Now app.
2. Select Search & Now ". This will open the settings menu for Google and Google Now.
3. Press speech. You will then see the option for voice commands for Google Now.
4. Press on the Languages-option. You can find these at the top of the list.
5. Click on which languages ​​you want to use. You can select as many languages ​​as you want. Press save when you are done.
   • To set a default language if you have selected multiple languages, press and hold the desired default language.
   • Your default language will be the spoken language that Google Now uses (if supported).
