In most cases, the pop-up blocker in Internet Explorer prevents websites from opening pop-up windows while browsing. This works well to keep advertisers at bay, but it can cause problems for websites that need pop-up windows to function properly. Fortunately, you can continue to visit these websites by disabling the popup blocker or lowering the blocking level.

To step

1. Open Internet Explorer. If you're using a Surface or Windows tablet, tap "Desktop" on your Start screen or in the All Apps list, then tap the Internet Explorer icon in the taskbar.
2. Click or tap the gear icon or the Tools menu. If you don't see these options, press the Altbutton, and then click the Tools menu.
3. Select "Internet Options". Now the Internet Options window opens.
4. Click or tap the tab.Privacy.
5. Uncheck the box next to "Enable Pop-up Blocker". Click or tap OK to save the changes.
6. Consider changing the blocking level instead of disabling the popup blocker. Click or tap the Settings button to access the pop-up blocker settings. Use the drop-down menu to change the settings to "Low". This way, most pop-ups are allowed while suspicious pop-ups are still blocked. You can also add websites to the list of exceptions so that popups from those websites are always allowed.
   • Disabling the popup blocker completely leaves you vulnerable to malware attacks and annoying advertisers. It is highly recommended that you keep the popup blockers enabled and add websites from which you want to allow popups to the list of exceptions.

Tips

• You will be notified in a small information bar below the address bar if a popup is blocked while the popup blocker is enabled. If you click on this bar you can temporarily allow pop-ups, add the website to the list of exceptions, or adjust the blocking settings.
