Facebook Messenger can scan your device's contacts to see if someone you know is also using Messenger. This can make finding friends and family in Messenger really easy. Messenger will automatically check for new contacts who have registered their number with Messenger.

To step

1. Open the People tab in the Messenger app. You can sync your contacts with Messenger to add people from your contact list who use Messenger to your Messenger friends list. Syncing contacts will also automatically update your Messenger friends list when you add a new contact to your device.
   • Contacts are added only if they have their phone number linked to a Messenger account.
2. Tap "Sync contacts" at the top of the People tab. If you are using iOS, you must first tap "Find Phone Contacts". Messenger will scan your contacts and find people to add to your friends list in Messenger.
   • If you're using an iOS device, tap "Open Settings" when prompted. Turn on the "Contacts" slider, then tap "Back to Messenger". Tap "Sync contacts" again to perform the synchronization.
3. Tap "View" to view the added contacts. Messenger displays all the contacts for which it has found Messenger profiles. These people are automatically added to your Messenger friends list, so you don't have to do anything.
   • If no contacts are found, Messenger will continue to scan your contact list for new contacts who may be using Messenger.
4. Turn off the synchronization of contacts to delete contacts added during the synchronization process. If you no longer want to sync contacts from your device's contact list, you can turn off contact sync. This will automatically delete the contacts you have synced:
   • Open the Settings (iOS) or Profile (Android) tab in Messenger.
   • Select "People".
   • Turn off "Sync contacts". Confirm that you want to delete the contacts you have synced.

Tips

• By synchronizing your contacts, you consent to the storage of contact details on Facebook's servers.
