Many girls want to lighten their naturally blonde hair so that it brightens and stands out, especially during the summer months. Luckily, there are a few ways to achieve fairer hair, whether you're on a tight budget, want a natural fix, or want lighter hair really quickly.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Natural methods

  1. Use lemon juice. Lemon juice has long been used as a natural bleaching agent. Here's how it works: The citric acid in lemon juice opens up the hair cuticles and pulls out the pigment, stripping hair of the color.
    • Mix half a cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice with half a cup of water and put it in a spray bottle. Spray the lemon mixture on damp hair and then sit in the sun for 30 minutes as sunlight activates the citric acid.
    • After 30 minutes (and no longer), rinse the lemon juice from your hair and use a deep conditioner, as lemon juice can be very drying out your hair and scalp.
  2. Use honey and olive oil. Honey is a natural bleaching agent, and olive oil nourishes your hair, making this method less harmful to your hair than most others.
    • Add 60ml of honey to 60ml of olive oil and stir until well blended. Spread the mixture into damp hair with your hands, making sure everything is well covered. Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap or cling film.
    • Let the honey-olive oil blend soak into your hair for at least 30 minutes - the longer you leave it on, the lighter your hair will be. When you're done, rinse it in the shower - it may take a few shampoos for the sticky honey to run out of your hair.
  3. Use chamomile tea. Chamomile flowers contain natural ingredients that can lighten blonde hair, making chamomile tea an easy and effective method.
    • Boil a pan with water and add five sachets of chamomile tea. When the water has cooled completely, remove the bags and pour the cold tea over your hair (preferably in the shower).
    • Let the chamomile tea sit for at least half an hour before rinsing it. As with lemon juice, chamomile tea works best if you sit in the sun while your hair dries.
  4. Use cinnamon. To get some caramel tones in your hair, you can use cinnamon as a nourishing and wonderfully scented treatment.
    • Take a teaspoon of cinnamon (preferably from a new jar so that it doesn't get stale) and mix it with a good hand of your favorite conditioner. Smear the conditioner into your hair and comb it well so that it is evenly distributed.
    • Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap or cling film and let the cinnamon conditioner work for a few hours or preferably overnight. Then wash it out of your hair with shampoo.
  5. Use rhubarb. Rhubarb gives your hair a yellowish tint, which is good for those with dark blond hair. Preferably use fresh rhubarb when it is in season, so in the summer.
    • Take two stems of rhubarb, wash them and cut them into small pieces. Put the pieces of rhubarb in a saucepan of cold water and bring to a boil over medium heat. When it is boiled, remove it from the heat and let the water cool completely.
    • When the water has cooled, pour it through a sieve so that the pieces of rhubarb are out and put the water in your hair. Let the rhubarb water soak for 10 to 15 minutes (in the sun if you want) and then rinse with clean water.
  6. Use baking soda. Baking soda can strip your hair of build-up from chemical styling products, and it can also lighten blonde hair over time.
    • Take baking soda with you in the shower and sprinkle it on your hair when it's wet. Work it through your hair with your fingers. It will form a kind of paste when mixed with water.
    • Use this baking soda paste once a week to wash your hair (instead of shampoo). Your hair will eventually get lighter and lighter.
  7. Use vitamin C. Vitamin C is not only good for your health, but it also makes your hair stronger and more blond.
    • Take 5 to 10 tablets of vitamin C and crush them in a mortar until you have a fine powder.
    • Add this Vitamin C powder to your regular shampoo and wash your hair as always. Doing this once a week will make your hair lighter and lighter.
  8. Use vinegar. Vinegar is effective for bleaching your hair - especially apple cider vinegar.
    • Although you can apply the vinegar directly to your hair, it can dry out and damage your hair. Therefore it is better to dilute it with equal parts of water.
    • Pour the diluted vinegar over your hair and leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing and shampooing. Repeat this once a week to gradually lighten your hair.

Method 2 of 3: Bleaching products and chemicals

  1. Use Spray Blond. Spray blond is a classic hair lightening product that became popular in the 1990s. It is cheap and effective to lighten light blonde to medium brown hair, although the result is often golden rather than light blonde.
    • You can buy Spray Blond at the Hema, the drugstore or online. You need to spray it on damp hair and then comb through (so that it lightens evenly).
    • If it is in it you can activate it in the sun. The heat from a hair dryer also works. The more often you use Spray Blond, the lighter your hair will be.
  2. Use hydrogen peroxide. Peroxide effectively bleaches your hair, making it lighter blonde. But peroxide will damage your hair, so don't overuse it.
    • You can buy hydrogen peroxide at the drug store. Mix one part hydrogen peroxide with one part water and put it in a clean spray bottle. Spray evenly all over your head, but do not apply it to your scalp as it can irritate it.
    • Leave the hydrogen peroxide on for 20-40 minutes - the longer you leave it on, the lighter your hair will be. Don't leave it on for more than 40 minutes, or your hair will dry out too much.
    • Shampoo your hair twice to wash any leftover hydrogen peroxide from your hair, then apply a good conditioner to your hair.
  3. Use vodka with lime. Some sources recommend putting vodka with lime in your hair to lighten it. The alcohol in combination with the lime would remove the pigment from your hair.
    • Pour the vodka with lime over your hair and comb it well. If you prefer highlights, dip a cotton ball in the alcohol and then wet some of it, from roots to ends.
    • Then sit in the sun for 30 minutes to intensify the effect, and then wash it off with shampoo.
  4. Use a bleaching shampoo. If you want a less damaging option, you can use a bleaching shampoo and conditioner - like John Frieda's "Go Blonder" range.
    • This bleaching shampoo and conditioner contains a combination of bleaching ingredients such as chamomile and citrus. You can use it daily instead of your normal shampoo.
    • It works best on hair that is naturally medium to light blonde, although dark blonde hair will show some difference over time.
  5. Use blonde paint. If you want blonde hair fast and want to spend some money on it, you can of course dye your hair blonde too.
    • Most drugstore hair dyes work fine if you want lighter hair (if you follow the guide carefully), but the results may depend on your own hair color.
    • The easiest option is to dye your hair one light color, but the outgrowth will show very clearly, so you will have to touch it up every few weeks.
    • You can also buy a box of paint for highlights, just lightening some strands in the top layer and around your face (the areas where your hair is normally bleached by the sun). This is a bit more difficult to apply, but you don't need to update it as often.
    • If you'd rather not dye your own hair yourself, you can also get it done by a hairdresser - but then you have to be willing to pay big for your fairer hair!

Method 3 of 3: Take good care of your hair

  1. Protect bleached hair from the sun. If your hair is lightened, it will be more sensitive to sunlight. Blonde hair can turn a little ruddy or yellow in the sun.
    • That is why it is important to protect your hair with a hat or by putting a hair spray with a UV filter in your hair when you go outside.
  2. Be careful with salt water and chlorine. Salt water can damage your blonde hair and turn it white, while chlorinated water can dry out your hair and leave it with a green glow.
    • You can prevent this by directing your hair in front of and after rinse the swim with clean water.
    • You can also buy a special hair mask that you rub into your hair to form a protective layer against salt and chlorine.
  3. Don't wash your hair too often. The cleansing ingredients in most shampoos and conditioners can remove the blonde color from your hair over time.
    • That's why don't wash your hair each day - for most hair types this is not necessary at all. Try to wash your hair every two or three days - you can use dry shampoo in between if needed.
    • If you do wash your hair, use a sulfate-free shampoo as it is gentler on your hair.
  4. Apply a deep conditioner at least once a week. Bleached or bleached hair is more likely to be damaged than other hair types.
    • That's why it's important to take good care of your hair so that it looks as shiny as possible. You can do this by applying a deep conditioner once or twice a week.
    • Use a drug store product, a natural oil such as coconut or argan, or make a mask from ingredients from your kitchen.

Tips

  • If you are concerned about how a particular method will turn out, try a small tuft from the bottom of your hair first.

Warnings

  • Some methods (especially those with alcohol and peroxide) dry out your hair a lot, so be careful and take good care of your hair afterward.
