This article will teach you how to factory reset your Samsung Galaxy device so that all personal and application data will be erased.

Method 1 of 2: Using the Settings menu

1. Open the App menu on your Samsung Galaxy. This is a menu of all apps installed on your device.
2. In this menu, press the icon Scroll down and press Backup and reset. This option will open your phone's reset menu.
   • If you don't see this option in the Settings menu, search for "General Management". On some devices, the "Reset" option will be in this submenu.
3. Press Restore factory settings. This will open a new page.
4. Press RESET DEVICE. This button will erase all personal data and downloaded applications. You must confirm your action on a new page.
   • Consider backing up your data before doing a factory reset. You will not be able to restore old data if it has not been backed up.
5. Press DELETE ALL. This button will confirm your action and reset your device. Returning to factory defaults will erase all personal and application data.
   • On older versions of Android, this button may be called "Delete All".
   • It may take a while to reset your device. When the reset is complete, your device will reboot.

Method 2 of 2: With recovery mode

1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy. Your device must be turned off to enter recovery mode in your boot menu.
2. Press and hold the Volume Down, Home, and Startup buttons simultaneously. Your device will boot. Hold these buttons until you see the "Android System Recovery" screen.
   • On some devices, instead of pressing "Volume Down", you have to press "Volume Up".
3. Use the Volume keys to select wipe data / restore factory values to select. Use the Volume keys to navigate through the recovery menu and select this option from the menu. This will reset your device to factory settings and erase all your data.
4. Press the Start button. The Start button acts as the button in the recovery menu ↵ Enter. This selects and opens the "wipe data / factory reset" option. You must confirm your action on the next page.
5. Select Yes - delete all user data in the menu. Use the Volume keys to navigate through the menu and press the Start button to select this option. This will reset your device to factory settings. All personal and application data will be deleted.
   • Resetting your device may take a while. After the reset is complete, your device will reboot.
