Metal puzzles are a fun and challenging way to train your brain. But if you've been stuck on the same puzzle for hours without achieving any results, you can get frustrated. If you're desperate for the solution, a puzzle guide can help. P-shape, horseshoe ring, and double-M puzzles are among the most common metal puzzles. If you can solve these three, you will be ready to decipher any metal puzzle.

To step

Part 1 of 3: Solving a P-shaped puzzle

  1. Grab the ends of the two P-shaped rings with both hands. Keep the puzzle as flat as possible to avoid accidentally turning the puzzle the wrong way. Make sure the puzzle is horizontal before you start spinning, with both ends of the P-rings facing out.
    • The two Ps must form a kind of "W" before you start spinning them.
  2. Turn the left P-shaped ring down. Then rotate the right ring around the "P" loop of the left ring. Your two P-shaped rings should now be stacked on top of each other as they mirror each other at the loops.
    • The rings should look heart-shaped in this step.
  3. Pull the right ring down through the left loop. As you put the right ring through the left loop, it should start sliding off the left P-shaped ring as soon as you reach the end of the ring. Once the two rings are separate, you have completed the puzzle.
    • Put the rings somewhere you can't forget them so you don't lose them.
  4. Slide one of the rings through the "P" loop of the other ring to reset the puzzle. To avoid losing a ring and to put the puzzle back together, run one ring through the loop of the other ring. Pull the first ring all the way through the second ring and then turn the second ring upwards to clamp both rings firmly together.

Part 2 of 3: Beat a horseshoe ring puzzle

  1. Hold the ring straight in front of you. Make sure you hold the puzzle as evenly and tightly as possible. Avoid holding one side higher or lower than the other. This will prevent the ring from rotating or getting stuck while you are working on the solution.
  2. Turn one of the horseshoes counterclockwise. Hold the metal ring between the two rings. Continue turning until the ring is stuck between the two rings and you cannot turn the horseshoe any further.
  3. Bend and align the horseshoes. Push the two horseshoes together until the chain bends in half. Line up the horseshoes as much as possible so that the ring can fall to the bottom of the horseshoes.
  4. Slide the ring off the horseshoes. Hold the metal ring and move it to one side of the horseshoes. When the horseshoes are aligned, the ring should slide off without any problem. Check that the horseshoes are properly aligned if the ring appears to be stuck or if you cannot find a gap at the top of the horseshoes.
  5. Realign the horseshoes to put the puzzle back together. When you're ready to put the puzzle back together, bend the chain in half to re-align the horseshoes. Then slide the ring over one end of the horseshoes, then bend the horseshoes back up and turn a horseshoe in the opposite direction to secure the ring.

Part 3 of 3: Solve a double M puzzle

  1. Lift one of the double M rings above the other ring. Both double M rings have a large bend at the top of the ring. Place the rings so that one ring is with the large bend facing up and the other ring in the opposite direction has the bend facing down.
    • Since both pieces are identical, they should look like a reflection of each other.
  2. Turn the rings at an angle of 90 degrees. Lift the bottom ring up through the side of the top ring and then tilt the ring sideways at a 90 degree angle. The two curves should still be in opposite directions.
  3. Slide the bottom part through the bend of the top part. Keep the rings even and at a 90 degree angle to avoid twisting the rings and making it too difficult for yourself. Once you reach the top, make sure the bottom ring is aligned with the center of the bend of the top ring.
  4. Lower the bottom ring through the center of the "M" of the top ring. Turn both rings up again and slide the bottom ring through the "M" of the top ring. When you have the rings aligned properly, the ring should slide through the center without twisting or pinching.
  5. Place one ring through the "M" of the other ring to reassemble the puzzle. To reattach the two rings, lift one ring through the center of the "M" of the other ring. Then turn the rings at a 90 degree angle and then slide them over the top bend to the bottom of the ring. This ensures that the rings are securely attached to each other when you store them.

Tips

  • The double M, P-shaped and horseshoe ring puzzles are just 3 of the most common metal puzzles. For more obscure designs, you can watch YouTube tutorials for your specific puzzle.
  • Of these 3 common metal puzzles, the double M puzzle (sometimes called "devil puzzle") is the most difficult.
