Have you ever wondered what people say when you watch Roland Garros? Or maybe you just want to learn some French tennis terms?
To step
- Scoring in French is essentially the same as in English, but with French words!
- Love = zero = 0 points
- 15 = quinze = 1 point
- 30 = Trent = 2 points
- 40 = quarante = 3 points
- If both players have the same score, say the following
- 15 all = quinze-à (pronounced canz'uh)
- 30 all = trente-à
- Deuce (40 all) = égalité, but only after the first quarante-à
- To say the scores after deuce
- Advantage server
- Advantage receiver
- Some other words you will need when scoring are:
- Game = jeux
- Set = game
- Match = match
Tips
- To say "Good ball!" You say "Bon Coup!"
Warnings
- If people don't understand you, you may have the wrong accent!
