There are many well-known ways to curl your hair, from using a brush and hair dryer to curling it in curlers overnight. However, you can curl your hair with a regular item that you will most likely find in your purse. With a pencil or pen, you can create beautiful and natural curls.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Curling without additional funds

  1. 1 Take a shower and blow dry your hair to keep it damp. It is best to shower and then towel dry your hair. Squeeze excess water out of your hair. After that, take a clean towel and lightly pat your hair with it, moving from roots to ends. You want to keep your hair dry, but still feel damp to the touch.
    • If your hair is too wet, it will become heavy and curls may straighten under the extra weight. Hair should be slightly damp.
  2. 2 Part your hair into comfortable sections. In most cases, small strands are recommended for better curling, although this will take longer. The smaller the strands, the finer the curls will turn out. If you take large strands, the curls will turn out smoother and more loose.
  3. 3 Select a section of hair and curl it around the pencil. After grabbing a section of hair, roll it halfway around the pencil, then rotate the pencil 180 degrees so that the hair does not slip off of it. After that, wind the rest of the strand onto the pencil. Stop 2.5-5 centimeters from the ends of your hair so that the curls fit your head.
  4. 4 Leave the pencil in your hair for 2-3 hours. The longer your hair is curled around the pencil, the better it will frizz. If you want to move on to the next section, secure your hair around the pencil with an elastic hair tie or hairpin, then grab a second pencil and wrap the next curl around it.
    • Once the pencils are secured, you can leave them in your hair overnight. As a result, you will get natural looking curls.
  5. 5 Let your hair down. However, your hair should be dry to the touch. Start with the first strand curled around the pencil, as later curls will take longer to curl. If a strand is too tight around the pencil, gently loosen it with your fingers.

Method 2 of 2: Using a flat hair straightener

  1. 1 Comb through your hair with a comb or brush. Brush or comb through your hair, making sure it is not tangled anywhere. Don't miss a single section as you comb your hair from roots to ends.
    • Use a wide-toothed comb for wavy hair and fine-toothed comb for straight hair.
  2. 2 Select a thin section of hair and curl it around the pencil. At the same time, try to wind the hair in a dense layer closer to the edge of the pencil. The pencil should not be visible from under the hair, but you should not overlap each other. This way, you get natural curls along the entire length of your hair, from roots to ends. In addition, you can iron the hair, not the pencil.
  3. 3 Take a straightening iron and press it against the hair that is wrapped around the pencil. Make sure that the iron is not too hot, otherwise you may burn your hair. For fine and colored hair, the temperature of the iron should be below 200 degrees. For thicker or coarser hair, preheat the iron to 200-300 degrees. Never heat it above 400 degrees. Hold each curl with an iron for 3-5 seconds, lightly pressing it against the pencil. Be careful not to burn your finger. After going through your hair, do not remove it from the pencil for another 10 seconds.
    • Spray hairspray on your curls to last longer.
  4. 4 Loosen your hair slowly by removing it from the pencil. If you feel that they are curled too tightly and resemble a springy spring, pass them through your fingers a couple of times. Do not brush your hair, otherwise the perm may disappear. After giving your hairstyle the look you want, fix it.
  5. 5 Apply hairspray. At the same time, keep the spray can at a distance of at least 30-35 centimeters from the hair. Use a medium hold varnish to keep the curls intact throughout the day. Done - you have graceful springy curls!
