You can charge your PlayStation Portable (PSP) using a wall charger that plugs into an electrical outlet, or a USB cable that connects to your computer. A charged PSP can last 4-5 hours; Moreover, the console must be fully charged to update the software. Also notice the orange color of the LED.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Using Wall Charging

1. 1 Find the wall charging port. The port is a yellow connector located in the lower right corner of the console. The PSP comes with a matching charging cable.
2. 2 Connect the network charging cable to your console. Now plug the charger into an electrical outlet.
   • The PSP's wall charger provides 5V. If you intend to change the charger, buy a charger with the same voltage to avoid damaging your console.
3. 3 Wait for the power indicator to turn orange. This indicator will first blink green and then turn orange to indicate correct connection. If the light does not turn orange, check if the wall charger is properly connected and if the battery is properly installed on the back of the console.
4. 4 Wait 4-5 hours. During this time, the battery will be fully charged.

Method 2 of 2: Using a USB cable

1. 1 Turn on your PSP. If your console's battery is still fresh and you're going to charge it using a USB cable (rather than wall charging), change your PSP settings.
   • Even if your console is already set up properly, turn it on to charge it via the USB cable.
   • Note: This method cannot be applied to 1st generation PSP models (1000 series).
   • You cannot play games while charging via the USB cable.
2. 2 Go to "Settings" in the menu that opens. For this menu, scroll to the left.
3. 3 Select "System Settings". To do this, scroll down the Settings menu.
4. 4 Enable the "Recharge USB" option. It is located in the System Settings menu and activates the USB charging option.
5. 5 Enable the "USB Connection" option. It's just below the Recharge USB option.
6. 6 Connect miniUSB cable to PSP. miniUSB port is at the top of the console.
   • The PSP has a 5-pin Mini-B USB port. Any suitable USB cable can be connected to it.
7. 7 Connect the other end of the USB cable to a power source. The power source can be a computer or a USB adapter that plugs into an electrical outlet.
   • If you connected the USB cable to your computer, turn on both the console and the computer.
8. 8 Wait for the power indicator to turn orange. This indicator will first blink green and then turn orange to indicate correct connection. If the light does not turn orange, check if the USB cable is properly connected and if the battery is properly installed on the back of the console.
9. 9 Wait 6-8 hours. The USB cable charges the console more slowly than the wall charger. During this time, the battery will be fully charged.

Tips

• Decrease the brightness of the PSP screen to reduce the rate at which the battery is draining. To do this, click on the button to the right of the PSP logo at the bottom of the screen.
• Also, to reduce power consumption, turn off Wi-Fi. To do this, move the silver slider located in the upper left corner of the console.
