Since PlayStation 4 (PS4) is not backward compatible, PlayStation 3 (PS3) game owners cannot insert PS3 discs into their PS4 console or play PS3 games downloaded from the PlayStation Network on their PS4. However, with a PlayStation Now subscription, users can access over a hundred PS3 games on PS4.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Preparing to Activate PlayStation Now
- 1 If you still have not registered with Sony Entertainment Network, please do so. Registering an account is completely free and required to activate PlayStation Now.
- Open the PlayStation Store website by going to: https://store.playstation.com/en-us/home/games and click on “Create Account” to register your free account with the Sony Entertainment Network.
- 2 Your internet connection speed must be at least 5 megabits per second (Mbps). To use PlayStation Now, you need a fast and stable internet connection.
- If necessary, contact your ISP to select a different plan.
- 3 Buy a DualShock 3 or DualShock 4 wireless controller. Controllers are input devices that allow you to play PS3 games on your PS4 console through PlayStation Now.
- 4Turn on your PS4 console and select Network.
- 5 Select "Set up an Internet connection" and then select the type of Internet connection. For a stable connection to PlayStation Now, Sony recommends using a wired connection.
- 6 Follow the onscreen instructions to connect your PS4 to the internet. If you are using a wireless connection, you will be asked to enter information to connect to the wireless network. If you are using a wired connection, connect your PS4 to your internet router using an Ethernet cable. You are now ready to subscribe to PlayStation Now.
Part 2 of 3: Connect to PlayStation Now
- 1 Return to the main menu on your PS4 and open the PlayStation Store. Here you can buy and subscribe to PlayStation Now.
- 2 Download the PS Now Subscription app to your console. It lets you manage your PlayStation Now subscriptions and games.
- 3 Select a subscription from the options provided. Sign up for a free 7-day PlayStation Now trial and pay RUB 339 at the end, sign up for a three-month subscription for RUB 749, or sign up for a 12-month subscription for RUB 2,399.
- 4 Follow the onscreen instructions to complete your PlayStation Now subscription. From now on, PS Now will be available from the Content Browser.
- 5 Open your browser and launch PS Now. There are now over 100 PS3 games available for you to play on PS4.
Part 3 of 3: Finding and Solving Problems
- 1 Switch to a wired connection if PlayStation Now cannot connect wirelessly. For the best results with PlayStation Now, Sony recommends using a wired connection via an Ethernet cable.
- 2 If your connection is unstable while using PlayStation Now, try pausing or canceling all large downloads and other running streaming services. Parallel downloads and streaming services can affect PlayStation Now.
- 3 Check the internet connection on your PS4 if PlayStation Now still won't load and work properly. This will ensure that the network meets the bandwidth requirements.
- Turn on your PS4 and select Network.
- Select "Test Internet Connection", then note the displayed speed in the "Connection Speed" field. Make sure your internet connection is 5 Mbps or faster.
