Method 1 of 2: Putting the device in DFU mode

1. 1 Connect your device to your computer. To enter DFU mode, the device must be connected to a computer via a USB cable. Make sure iTunes is running.
2. 2 Turn off the device. Press and hold the Power button until you see the shutdown slider. Swipe the slider to the right to turn off your device. Wait for the device to turn off completely before proceeding.
3. 3 Press the Power button. Press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds.
4. 4 Press the Home button. After 3 seconds, press and hold the Home button while holding down the Power button. Do this for another 10 seconds.

After a few seconds, you will see a message in iTunes that your device has been detected. If the operation was successful, the device screen will remain black.

Method 2 of 2: What is DFU Mode
