White embroidery is a form of embroidery that is done with coarse thread on muslin. It is considered a traditional type of embroidery because it uses an ancient technique known as the colonial knot.

Steps

  1. 1 Cut off a piece of muslin; cut a little more than needed for the composition.
  2. 2 Place the muslin over the sample.
  3. 3 Gently transfer the outline of the sample lightly onto the muslin. This can be done faster and easier with a light box.
  4. 4 Use a pin to attach the fabric to the specimen to prevent slipping.
  5. 5 Use a washable marker to make small dots and thus indicate the location of colonial knots and other embroidery dots used in the composition.
  6. 6 Make sure to completely transfer the template to the muslin and not miss anything.
  7. 7 Separate the template from the matter.
  8. 8 Hoop the fabric.
  9. 9 Thread the needle with 4 strands of white embroidery or 6-12 strands of silk embroidery thread. The amount of thread you use will determine the size of your colonial knots.
  10. 10 Tie a knot in a twig or silk and sew the first colonial knot stitch. If this is your first white stitching knot, practice on a small piece of gauze first.
  11. 11 Work systematically on the composition, moving from left to right, top to bottom to avoid damaging the already completed area.
  12. 12 Remove the marker gradually as you finish embroidering.
  13. 13 The finished composition should be put face down on a white towel and ironed with an iron.
  14. 14 "Pat" the fabric gently with an iron so as not to damage the colonial knots.
  15. 15 Ready!
