In Korean, "te" means "the art of striking by attacking the target with the feet, the strength is obtained from the methodical movements of the body." Taekwondo is well known for its superior foot kick techniques. Legs are not only powerful weapons, but they are also used to block oncoming attacks. You need to maintain a solid balance on your supporting leg while striking. Particular attention should be paid to shifting the balance and returning the striking leg. This is how the straight kick is done in taekwondo.

Steps

  1. 1 Understand the types of kicks in taekwondo. There are different types of strikes (remember, the word "chagi" means "strike"):
    • Punch in the face - it means to strike in the face directly.
    • Blow to the torso - the body means the solar plexus and side.
    • Bottom kick - refers to the lower abdomen.
  2. 2 Learn and understand exactly which part of the foot is used to deliver a particular blow. Before you start throwing any punches, this understanding is the first important step. Examples of the application of techniques when applying different types of blows can be seen in the illustrations for the article.
    • When Apchuk strikes, the beginning of the arch of the foot and toes act on the target.
  3. 3 Bend your knee and bring it closer to your chest.
  4. 4 Perform a straight hit (Ap-Chagi). Execute a straight kick by quickly straightening your leg.
    • Aim for the torso and face to attack.
    • Strike in different positions as shown in the following steps.
  5. 5 and the heel (the outside of the foot) is used for strikes. Perform a side kick (Yop-chagi). Using the outer edge of the foot as a side impact is called Yop Chagi.
    • Raise the knee of the kicking leg by bending it forward.
    • Extend your foot straight towards the target.
    • The back of the sole and the outer edge of the foot are used for pushing.
  6. 6 Execute a straight kick with a leg lift or a "splash" kick (An-chagi). Use the inside of the instep of the foot (known as "Baldun").
    • This kick is performed by drawing a circle with the kick foot from the outside to the inside.
    • The inside of the outside of the foot is used to attack.
    • Aim for the body and face to attack.
  7. 7 Perform a backward kick (Nakka chaga). Use the heel ("Dvikumchi").
    • Raise the knee of the kicking leg by bending forward.
    • The kick leg will instantly extend the knee.
    • Attack your opponent's back with a straight knee bend.
    • Hit with your heel.
  8. 8 Perform a hit with a full body rotation ("Momdoglio-chagi"). Use the inside of your foot (Balbadak).
    • First look at your opponent eye to eye.
    • Rotate the body 360® clockwise.
    • At the same time, unfold your foot and lift it towards it as high as possible.
    • The inner side of the foot is used for strikes after a full 360® turn.
    • The striking leg returns to its original position upon completion of a full rotation.
  9. 9 Perform a twist kick (Dolio Chagi). This is one of the main strikes that is extremely effective and has a wide impact when it hits the target. Use the instep ("Baldun"), from the ankle to the toes.
    • Bend the knee of the back leg, rest on your toes, and draw a circle around the supporting leg, aligning the back of the foot with the target.
    • Also hit with the lift of the foot towards the face above the ribs.

Tips

  • For long positions: Your feet should be shoulder-width apart, and twice shoulder-width apart in length. The front leg should point forward and the back leg should point to the side.
