Road bikes must be tailored to suit each individual cyclist. A well-adjusted road bike is comfortable to ride and comfortable to ride. All the tools you need to fit your road bike are available at the hardware store. Follow these tips on how to fit your road bike.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Choose a Frame

  1. 1 Select the type of frame. Choose frame type C-C or C-T
  2. 2 Measure your inseam.
    • Stand with your back against the wall.
    • Spread your legs 15 to 20 cm wide.
    • Place the book on the floor and pinch it with your feet. The spine of the book should be facing away from the wall. The opposite edge should touch the wall.
    • Raise the book to crotch level. Imagine that you are sitting on a bicycle saddle.
    • Ask your assistant to measure the distance from the top of the book to the floor. This is your inner seam.
  3. 3 Calculate your frame size.
    • If you have a C-C frame, multiply the inseam by 0.65. If the inseam is 76.2 cm, the result is 49.5 cm.Your frame should be as close to 49.5 cm as possible.
    • If you have a C-T frame, multiply the inseam by 0.67. If the inseam is 76.2 cm, the result is 51 cm.Your frame should be as close to 51 cm as possible.
  4. 4 Calculate the total length. Overall length is the distance you can extend horizontally from the seat to the handlebars of your bike. Measuring the total length helps you know the distance from the main frame to the headset to which the bike's handlebars are attached.
    • Stand with your back to the wall again.
    • Take a pencil. Hold the pencil in your hand.
    • Stretch your arms out to the sides. The arms should be parallel to the ground.
    • Ask your assistant to measure the distance from the point on the collarbone closest to the shoulder to the pencil with a tape measure. This is the length of your outstretched arm.
    • Place the book on the floor and pinch it with your feet. The spine of the book should be facing away from the wall. The opposite edge should touch the wall.
    • Raise the book to crotch level.
    • Ask your assistant to measure with a tape measure from the top of the book to the hollow in your neck, just below the Adam's apple. This is your torso length.
    • Add the length of the arm and the length of the torso. Let's say an arm length of 61 cm and a torso length of 61 cm will give you a total of 122 cm.
    • Divide the amount by 2. From the sum of 122 cm, you get 61 cm.
    • Add 10.2 cm to your result. It turns out 71.2 cm. From the main frame to the steering column, the distance should be as close to 71.2 cm as possible.

Method 2 of 2: Adjust the seat height

  1. 1 Get on your bike.
  2. 2 Move one pedal to its lowest point of rotation. The foot on this pedal should be slightly bent.
  3. 3 Using a wrench, loosen the bolt that holds the seat in place.
  4. 4 Move the seat tube higher or lower as needed.
  5. 5 Tighten the bolt with a wrench.

Tips

  • Road bikes are measured based on the length of the seat tube. Center to Center Frame (C-C) is measured from the middle of the pedal bracket along the seat tube to the middle of the main frame. Center-to-Top Frame (C-T) is measured from the middle of the pedal bracket along the seat tube to the top of the main frame.
