In this article, we are going to show you how to find out your Python version on a Windows or Mac OS X computer.

Method 1 of 2: Windows

1. 1 Open the search bar. If it is not on the taskbar, click the magnifying glass icon next to or press ⊞ Win+S.
2. 2 Enter python in the search bar. The search results will open.
3. 3 Click on Python [command line]. A black command prompt window opens with a Python prompt.
4. 4 Find the version on the first line. The word "Python" appears in the upper left corner of the window, and the Python version (for example, 2.7.14) appears to the right of it.

Method 2 of 2: Mac OS X

1. 1 Open a terminal. To do this, open a Finder window and click Applications> Utilities> Terminal.
2. 2 Enter python -V in the terminal.
3. 3 Click on ⏎ Return. The Python version will be displayed under the word "Python" (for example, 2.7.3).
