The Magic Mesh screen can protect your doorway just like a regular door, but its magnetic closure system makes it easier to walk through. Installation is relatively quick and easy.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Preparing the door

  1. 1 Clean the door frame. Wipe off any dirt or debris from the surface you plan to attach the Magic Mesh to.
    • Dirt can prevent the hook and hinge adhesive strips from adhering to the door frame.
    • A quick wipe of the door frame with a slightly damp cloth or disinfectant wipe will remove most of the dirt. Naturally, let the frame dry before attaching the Magic Mesh.
  2. 2 Determine where to install the screen. Make sure that it will not interfere with the opening of the door.
    • If your door opens inward, you need to install Magic Mesh on the outside of the door frame.
    • Conversely, install a screen on the inside of the door frame if the door opens outward.
    • When installing the Magic Mesh screen above a sliding door, make sure you attach it to a fixed door.
  3. 3 Measure the height of the door. Use a tape measure to measure the height of the door frame. Note this measurement for future reference.
    • You will need to use this measurement to determine how high you should hang your screen. If the screen is taller than the height of your doorframe, you will need to position it so that the top edge is above the frame. Otherwise, the screen will drag along the floor.
  4. 4 Measure the width of the door. Use a measuring tape to measure the width of your doorway.
    • Mark this measurement down, then halve the measurement. Write down that distance as well.
    • When installing the screen over a sliding door, the opening must be 36 inches (91.4 cm) or more. For non-sliding doors, the width of the door frame must be no less than the width of the entire Magic Mesh screen.
  5. 5 Mark the midpoint. Measure out half the full width of the door along the main structure. Use a pencil to lightly mark this center point directly on the top of the door frame.
    • This point should be exactly in the center of the top of the door frame.
    • You will begin installing the Magic Mesh screen panels at this center point.

Part 2 of 3: Preparing the Magic Mesh Screen

  1. 1 Lay the Magic Mesh out. Spread it out, lay it on the ground or other large flat surface
    • Hold the two panels of the screen side by side. When joined together, these two parts will become one screen. The connecting magnets of both parts must be centered on the entire screen.
    • The gap between the magnets and the trim will appear larger at the top of the screen and smaller at the bottom. In addition, the bottom edge is slightly "crimped".
  2. 2 Checking the magnets. The magnets of each panel must pair with each other. Walk down the entire length to the center of the panel, checking each magnet of the pair to make sure the magnets of each pair are attracting each other.
    • If one pair of magnets is working correctly, the others should work too. But it is better, of course, to check each pair separately, since manufacturing errors can lead to the fact that one of the magnetic pairs does not match.
    • Note that you will need to separate the magnets of each pair before installing the mesh.
  3. 3 Apply glue to the hooks and loops of the strip on the net. Remove the protective film from the soft side of each hook and loop of the strip, then attach the glue-coated surface directly to the back of the net.
    • When you buy the netting kit, there should be 12 hook and loop adhesive strips. These stripes should be used.
    • Attach the strips to the side of the screen that will attach to the door. Make sure each strip adheres securely to the mesh.
    • Arrange the strips in a precise manner. Starting with the screen panel to your left (panel "A"):
      • Place the "A1" strip along the top edge, positioning it as close to the center as possible. # * * Place the "A2" strip along the center of the top edge. # * * Place the "A3" strip in outer, upper corner. # * * Place the A4 strip one quarter of the way down the outer vertical edge. # * * Place the A5 strip three quarters down the outer vertical edge. # * * Place the strip "A6" in the lower outer corner. # * Place the mirror in the same way on the second panel (panel "B"), using the remaining six strips ("B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6").

Part 3 of 3: Installing the Magic Mesh Screen

  1. 1 Hold the first panel to the center of the door. Remove the protective layer from the other side of the "A1" strip. Press the sticky surface against the door frame, positioning it so that the inside edge of the panel is in line with the center previously marked on the door frame.
    • Press and hold the adhesive strip for at least 30 seconds to ensure a secure fit.
    • Double check to make sure the mesh is high enough to prevent the bottom edge from dragging along the ground. To maintain the integrity of the adhesive surface, you must check the correct height before gluing the strip to the door frame. Removing the strip and placing it elsewhere may cause some damage to the adhesive surface.
  2. 2 Secure the top of the first panel. Peel off the backing from the other side of the "A2" and "A3" strips and press them in place along the upper door frame.
    • Press and hold each strip for about 30 seconds.
    • Make sure the top edge of the mesh panel is horizontal and parallel to the door frame.
    • After gluing the top edge of panel "A", this panel should remain in place for the remainder of the installation.
  3. 3 Hold the second panel to the center of the door. Remove the protective layer from the other side of the "B1" strip. Press the adhesive side of the strip against the door frame opposite the marked center.
    • Press and hold the strip for about 30 seconds.
    • The center of the edge of this panel ("B") should lie directly next to the center of the edge of the first panel ("A"). Both edges may even overlap slightly.
    • Make sure the height of panel "B" is the same as the height of panel "A".
  4. 4 Secure the top of the second panel. As with panel "A", peel off the protective film from strip “B2” and “B3”, then press the adhesive side of both strips against the top of the door frame.
    • Press and hold for 30 seconds.
    • The top edge of this panel should be horizontal, parallel to the door frame, and even the first panel.
    • Hold the top edge of panel "B" to prevent the panel from falling downward for the remainder of the installation.
  5. 5 Check the magnets. Work downward vertically from the center of the entire screen, bringing the magnets in each magnet set together.
    • If the mesh panels were evenly hung, the magnets from each set should be connected correctly and completely. The magnets should be aligned with the vertical center of the door.
    • If the magnets of each pair are not connected, the Magic Mesh will not close properly after installation.
  6. 6 We ensure the security of the parties line by line. Peel off the backing of the remaining hooks and loops of the strip, then press the adhesive side of each strip against the door frame.
    • Work both sides at the same time.
      • Observe strips "A4" and "B4."
      • Then, work with stripes "A5" and "B5".
      • Finally, hold onto strips "A6" and "B6".
    • Press down on each strip for at least 30 seconds, or until it adheres.
    • By working in rows in this way, you can ensure that the magnetic pairs stay together and prevent the panels from splitting too far apart.
  7. 7 Insert wooden nails through each hook and loop of the strip. For added security, you must attach the installed screen to the door frame with wooden nails.
    • Please note that this step is optional but highly recommended.
    • These wooden nails are a must when purchasing Magic Mesh. You must have a total of 12 wooden nails.
    • Simply press one wooden nail in the center of each hook and loop of the strip located around the perimeter of your screen. It is enough to press down on the nails with your finger to secure them, but if that does not work, you can hammer each nail in with a hammer.
    • Use wood nails only on wood frames or wood molding. Do not use them on any non-wood surface.
  8. 8 Checking the work of the Magic Mesh screen. The grid is installed. Check it out by walking through the center of the screen several times.
    • The magnetic vapors should split apart when you pass through them and close together again after you leave the doorway.
    • If the screen does not work as intended, you may need to reinstall it by moving the panels closer or further apart as needed.
