Installation of roller blinds is a task that anyone can solve, even if it is necessary to adjust them to size. If you know how to use a screwdriver and drill holes, you can do it. Just follow this tutorial step by step.

Steps

  1. 1 Buy curtains. Buy a pre-made curtain that fits your window, or buy one larger one that needs to be shrunk later (see step 4).
  2. 2 Mark the level line. Place the curtain where you plan to hang it. Ask someone to see if she is in the correct position (you will be too close to see for yourself).
    • Mark the level line where the curtain will hang; ideally, it is located 4-5 cm above the window. If you are not sure if it is level, check it with a level.
    • Use the end brackets to mark the threaded holes in the position in which you hold the curtains (it is best to do this with two people, while one is holding, the other is marking) at an equal distance from the center of the window.
  3. 3 Install the brackets. Make sure each is on the correct side, they usually differ on each side. To be sure, check the instructions that came with the curtains.
    • Drill holes to install the bracket screws.
    • Insert the wall plugs (if necessary) and fasten the bracket with screws. If you are attaching the curtains to a wooden surface rather than a stone surface, you can install the screw directly into the wood (making the hole with an awl) without drilling or dowels.
  4. 4 Adjust the shade. If you're lucky, the curtain will fit exactly. If the curtain you purchased is too long or too wide, you can cut off the excess.
    • Measure the distance between the brackets, then subtract the length from the included instructions.
    • Unfold the curtain. Mark the excess, and use a hacksaw to shorten the roller and bar (strip of wood or metal at the bottom).
    • Mark and cut the curtains with sharp scissors.
    • Insert the end caps and control jig into the ends of the roller (making sure they are on the correct side), then insert the shade into the brackets.
  5. 5 Finish the installation. Close the curtain. Make sure it is level and of the correct length. Pull the shade up and down to check that the cord or other mechanism is working properly. Correct any loose ends, such as a cord that hangs too low (usually this is adjusted by the small latches installed on it).

Tips

  • If you don't want to mess with trimming your curtains, order the curtains by size.
  • When cutting curtains that have a pull-cord in the center, you must trim them on both sides, otherwise the cord will not be in the center.
  • If you buy used curtains, be sure to clean them first.
  • Can't find the curtains you like? Make them yourself using your fabric, roller, fabric stiffeners.
  • Fitting curtains into grooves requires accurate measurements, but it will be easier for you if you make sure they are sized outside the grooves.
