A perforated board is a sheet of chipboard or fiberboard with pre-drilled holes that is often used to keep tools and other fixtures organized in an organized manner. The material is distinguished by its high density, which makes it particularly tough and durable. Installing a perforated slab on a wall in a garage or home can be very inexpensive, but requires accurate dimensions, proper placement and wall mounting.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Buying Materials

  1. 1 Measure the section of the wall where you are going to install the perforated board. Before going to the store, you need to know the length and width of the site.
  2. 2 Buy a perforated plate. The standard sizes are 60 x 120, 120 x 120 and 120 x 240 cm. If you need the exact size, buy a larger slab and trim to size.
    • In most warehouse-type stores, cutting will be performed free of charge or for a symbolic price.
    • It is also possible to install several perforated plates on the wall.
  3. 3 To complete the frame, buy slats for the crate. Cut them to the width of the slab.
    • The frame will allow you to leave a space between the wall and the slab, which will accommodate the hanger connections. It will also serve as a support for the slab and will not damage the wall.
  4. 4 Pick the paint you want. Perforated slabs are available in white and brown and can be left unpainted if desired. To prevent such a stove from standing out in the kitchen or in the workshop, paint it in the same color as the walls.
    • For contrast, you can paint the slab with spray paint.
  5. 5 Paint the stove in your garage or outdoors a few days before installing. Pre-painting will reduce paint odor and also allow the paint to dry prior to installation.

Part 2 of 3: Installing the perforated plate

  1. 1 Use a post locator to mark where the posts are. If you are unable to locate the studs or you are installing the board on drywall, then install wall anchors every 40 cm to properly support the board.
    • It is advisable to make holes in the racks, as the perforated plate is often used to store fairly heavy tools or kitchen utensils.
  2. 2 Ask a friend to help you install the slats. Hold them horizontally across the wall and place a level on top of the slats. Adjust their position and have a friend support the batten as you screw long wood screws through the battens into the uprights or wall anchors.
    • For small slabs, two horizontal strips will suffice. For larger slabs, use three or four slats.
    • Drill mounting holes in the battens before applying to the wall and after aligning to align the batten with the wall anchors.
  3. 3 Lift up the perforated board to cover the slat frames. Check the level and get ready to secure them with the help of a friend.
  4. 4 Screw the plate to the rails using 18 mm screws with washers. Screw on the plate at the same distance, for example every 15 cm, horizontally. Attach the slab to all remaining battens.

Part 3 of 3: Using the stove

  1. 1 Buy a cooker holder kit. Check that the supplied items match the holes in the plate. Typically, the diameter of the hole in the perforated plate is 6 and 3 mm.
  2. 2 Place the holders on a large table. Try different combinations by placing tools or utensils next to the holders.
  3. 3 Transfer the holders from the table to the stove for proper positioning.
  4. 4 If the plate moves excessively when installing the holders, secure it with additional screws.

Tips

  • A typical set of holders costs about $ 10. Kits of perforated plate and various holders can cost over $ 100. The separate purchase of the perforated plate and holders is cheaper than a ready-made kit.
  • You can make homemade holders by hammering small nails into the stove. Measure the width of the tool and hammer in nails from both sides of the handle. Insert the tool between two nails.
