Thanks to the tips in this article, you will be able to travel by car with the confidence that your child is completely safe.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Installing the infant carrier (back forward)

1. 1 Place the infant carrier in the back seat of the vehicle. Place the infant carrier towards the rear window. Using a car seat (or infant carrier) in the back seat is safer, especially for vehicles with airbags. You can place the infant carrier in the front seat if necessary, but first of all you need to make sure that the airbags are deactivated. Check the manufacturer's instructions for the car seat.
2. 2 Fasten the seat belt firmly to the base of the infant carrier. Check the instructions and the belt markings to ensure that the infant carrier is fastened correctly. Newer car seat models may have special clamps to firmly attach the seat to the vehicle (eg ISOFIX). Read the instructions. CAUTION: Do not use rigid attachments and a strap at the same time. The car seat is considered to be properly and firmly secured when it can be pulled 2 to 3 cm to the side.
3. 3 Make sure the car seat is in a sufficiently level position. The child's head should not accidentally lean forward. Never tilt the infant carrier back more than half (45 degrees). Use the indicator on the car seat or base as a guide. If necessary, you can put a rolled towel under the base (only if it is allowed by the manufacturer and is expressly indicated in the instructions).
4. 4 Dress your child in tight clothing. This will help prevent the belt from chafing your baby's skin. Do not dress your child in heavy clothes, as this will make it difficult for you to tighten the belts thoroughly.
5. 5 Place the shoulder straps as low as possible. Use the hole behind or below your child's shoulders, and place the clip at underarms.
6. 6 Place rolled-up blankets to either side of the baby. Thanks to this, the child will be more comfortable, they will support the child's head. Never use blankets, towels, etc. under the child or behind him.
7. 7 Place a towel between the baby's legs under the belt buckle.
8. 8 Adjust the shoulder straps. Tighten the strap if necessary.
9. 9 Cover the baby with a blanket. In cold weather, it is especially important to keep your child warm. Make sure the blanket is securely fastened so that it won't fall on your baby's face.

Method 2 of 2: Installing the car seat (facing forward)

1. 1 Read the instructions. Each car seat has a different strap pattern, so it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions in the instructions for your car seat.
2. 2 Place the car seat in the back seat of the vehicle. The base must be flat on the car seat and the backrest must be flat against the back of the seats. Raise or retract the head restraints if necessary.
3. 3 Find the holes through which you want to pull the seat belt. Such holes must be marked with special stickers. They are usually located behind the seat.
4. 4 Attach the child car seat as instructed in the instructions. Check that the belt is passed through the special ties correctly and that they are secured.
