With proper care, porcelain dolls can last forever. A little effort and care will restore them to their original appearance and maintain them in good condition. If you handle the doll carefully, take proper care and repair it in case of breakage, then it will always remain in its original form.

Part 1 of 3: How to Handle a Doll

1. 1 Always use gloves. Porcelain dolls are very fragile and require extremely careful handling. If this is just a child's toy, then gloves are useless, but collectible or decorative dolls should be handled only with white cotton gloves. Fats on the skin can stain china or doll clothes and attract dust.
2. 2 Place a towel under the doll. Place the doll on a towel instead of directly on the table when cleaning or changing the item. This precaution will help protect the doll from dirt and stains. The towel also softens a hard surface, providing protection for a fragile toy.
3. 3 Store your doll in a safe place. If the doll is a collectible or needs additional security, then it is best to store it in a factory or ventilated box. On the Internet, you can buy special cases in which the dolls can be displayed. If you smoke indoors, it is best to store your doll in an airtight box so that it does not become stained.Avoid direct sunlight and keep the room temperature free from sudden changes.

4. 4 Comb the doll's hair. Brush the doll's hair gently with a special brush. They should always be kept dry so that the glue holding the wig does not soften. Straight and synthetic hair can be brushed gently with a wire brush. It is better not to comb curly hair so as not to spoil the curls.

Part 2 of 3: How to clean your doll

1. 1 Wipe off dust. Regularly remove dust from porcelain dolls with a feather whisk or large soft brush. Thanks to this care, you can often do without deep cleaning. If the dust does not come off, try placing the doll in a nylon stocking and gently vacuuming it through a cloth, or using an air compressor at minimum power. If you don't use a stocking, your doll's hair can be tangled, curled, or ruined. If you don't have a stocking, try covering your hair with your hand.
2. 2 Clean the porcelain. Try to gently clean the porcelain doll with a dry cloth or sponge. You can use a drop of water if necessary, but don't overdo it. Wipe the doll gently with a sponge or tissue. Try to rub it gently, lightly, so as not to remove paint (especially makeup on your face).
   • All recesses and hard-to-reach places (eyes, nose, mouth and ears) can be cleaned with a cotton swab or toothbrush. Your movements should be very gentle, especially around the lashes.
3. 3 Remove stains from porcelain. If stains appear on the doll, try to carefully remove them. Try using a small amount of mild detergent with water first. If the stain persists, mix a pinch of baking soda with water. Test the solution first on an inconspicuous area to avoid damaging the visible part of the doll or removing paint.
4. 4 Wash your hair. If your hair is visibly dirty, try gently peeling off the glue that holds it with water and your fingers. Synthetic hair can be washed with water and glass cleaner, while natural hair can be washed with a mild detergent. When the wig is completely dry, stick it in place using PVA glue.

Part 3 of 3: How to fix a doll

1. 1 Cloudy eyes. If the doll's eyes become cloudy and crystallized, then they can be put in order. Place a very small amount of sewing machine oil on your eyes. Gently rub the oil over your eyes and place the doll face down; leave for about an hour. Check periodically to ensure that the oil does not spread over the porcelain. It is very important to use the minimum amount of oil and not let it get on other parts of the doll. If the sewing oil is not handled carefully, cracks may form on the porcelain.
2. 2 Clothing. Doll clothes can be repaired and sewn by hand. If stains appear on the fabric, remove and wash the doll outfit. Remove removable jewelry from fabric before washing. Hand wash in cold water and then pat dry.
3. 3 Take the doll to the repair shop. If cracks appear on the doll or you are not sure of your ability to fix the flaws, then take the doll to a repair shop. Visit an antique or doll workshop. You can find a suitable salon online or in the newspaper.
