In this article, we will show you how to enter the degree symbol (°) on a computer and on a mobile device. In most cases, this symbol is entered after an angle or temperature value.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: Windows

1. 1 Open the start menu . Click on the Windows logo in the lower left corner.
2. 2 In the search bar, enter table. This will start searching for Symbol Table.
3. 3 Click on table of symbols. This triangular icon is at the top of the Start menu. The Symbol Tables window opens.
4. 4 Check the box next to Advanced Options. This option is located at the bottom of the window.
   • Skip this step if the checkbox is already checked.
5. 5 Look for the degree symbol. Enter degree sign (degree symbol) in the Search bar, and then click Search. The degree symbol will remain in the window.
   • If you open the Symbol Table window, the degree symbol is on the sixth line.
6. 6 Double click on the degree symbol. You will find it in the upper left corner of the window.
7. 7 Click on Copy. You will find this option to the right of To Copy.
8. 8 Open a text file, email, or social media post where you will insert the degree symbol.
9. 9 Insert the degree symbol. Click in the place of the document / message / letter where you want to insert the degree symbol. Now press Ctrl+V - the degree symbol will be inserted.
10. 10 Use a keyboard shortcut. Do this if you have a numeric keypad (the number keys on the right side of the keyboard):
    • hold Alt on the right of the keyboard;
    • enter 248 or 0176;
    • let go Alt;
    • if that didn't work, click Num ⇩to activate the numeric keypad, and then try again.

Method 2 of 4: Mac OS X

1. 1 Click where the degree symbol should be. Open the document, application, or website where you want to add the degree symbol, and click in the text box or location where this symbol will appear.
2. 2 Open the menu Change. You will find it at the top of the screen.
3. 3 Click on Emoji and symbols. You will find this option at the bottom of the menu. The Symbols panel appears.
4. 4 Click on the tab Punctuation. You will find it in the Symbols panel.
   • You may need to click on Expand first. This rectangular icon is located in the upper right corner.
5. 5 Look for the degree symbol. It is located on the third line (to the right of the "^").
   • The large degree symbol is on the right side of the same line (in case you don't like the small degree symbol on the left of the line).
6. 6 Double click on the degree symbol. It will be inserted where the cursor is.
7. 7 Use a keyboard shortcut. Enter the degree symbol by pressing ⌥ Option+⇧ Shift+8.

Method 3 of 4: iPhone / iPad

1. 1 Launch an application that allows you to use the onscreen keyboard. You can use it to enter the degree symbol, but first you need to switch to a different layout.
2. 2 Place the cursor where you want the degree symbol to be. Tap a text box (for example, in an iMessage) where you want to enter the degree symbol. An on-screen keyboard appears.
3. 3 Click on 123. You will find this button in the lower left corner of your keyboard. The alphanumeric keyboard appears instead of the alphabetic keyboard.
4. 4 Hold "0". You will find this button at the top of the keyboard. A menu will appear above the specified button.
   • On iPhone 6S and newer models, do not press hard on the "0" to activate the button menu, rather than enable the "3D Touch" function.
5. 5 Highlight the degree symbol. To do this, slide your finger across the screen to the degree symbol - as soon as it is highlighted, remove your finger from the screen. This will insert the degree symbol into the text you are typing.

Method 4 of 4: Android device

1. 1 Launch an application that allows you to use the onscreen keyboard. Note that there is a degree symbol on the symbol keyboard.
2. 2 Place the cursor where you want the degree symbol to be. Tap a text field (for example, in a text message in the Messaging app) where you want to enter the degree symbol. An on-screen keyboard appears.
3. 3 Tap ?123 or ?1☺. You will find this button at the bottom of the keyboard. A keyboard with numbers and symbols appears.
4. 4 Click on the dedicated button. Most Android devices have two character keyboards, so click on the math button to open the second character keyboard.
   • On some Android devices, press the ">" button to open the second character keyboard.
5. 5 Touch the button with the degree symbol. This will insert that character into the text box.
6. 6 Copy the degree symbol. If there is no degree symbol on the on-screen keyboard, follow these steps:
   • hold "°";
   • select "Copy" from the menu;
   • click on the text box;
   • tap Insert.
