If the legs of a chair, bed, sofa, table, or other furniture sit on the carpet, they often leave unsightly dents. They can be especially noticeable if you move furniture around. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to get rid of these dents before the guests arrive.
Steps
- 1 Move the furniture to access the dents.
- 2 Place an ice cube in each dent. Large or long dents may require several ice cubes.
- 3 Let the ice cubes melt. When they melt, the pile will begin to heal, reducing and ultimately relieving you of the dent.
- 4 Check the result the next morning. Blot excess water with paper towels or a cloth if necessary.
- 5 If the carpet has not completely recovered, gently lift the pile with a fork.
- 6 Repeat these steps for stubborn dents.
Tips
- Test this method with one ice cube in an inconspicuous place. Raise the corner of the carpet to make sure the water doesn't damage the floor.
- If the dent persists, spray the dent with water, then use a hair dryer to lift the nap.
Warnings
- Do not use this method on hand-dyed, antique, delicate or valuable carpets, or if the pile cannot be cleaned with water.
- Be careful if there is a wooden floor under the carpet.Test on an inconspicuous spot first to make sure you don't damage the floor.
- If the dent is deep or long, it may require more than one ice cube, but don't make the area too wet.
What do you need
- 1 ice cube for each carpet dent
- White paper towels or cloth (optional)
- Fork (optional)
