Method 2 of 4: Alcohol
1 Place the stained, washable cloth, stain side down, on a hard surface.
2 Gently blot the wrong side with alcohol using a cotton swab or cotton swab. Saturate the fabric completely.
3 Apply cold water to the back of the stain. Continue to work the wrong side of the fabric and wipe the stain with a clean terry towel. Work in a circular motion from edge to center.
4 Pat the back of the fabric dry with a clean piece of towel to remove the stain. Flip the fabric over and dry the right side. You may need to repeat this process to completely remove the stain.
Method 3 of 4: Upholstery Stains
1 Apply a small amount of hairspray directly to the upholstery fabric. Wait a few minutes for the hairspray to penetrate the fabric.Wipe off, pat dry with a towel and repeat as needed. Removing lipstick from upholstery can be difficult as you cannot remove the fabric and process it, but you can still remove lipstick completely by repeating the process many times.
2 If you are unable to remove the lipstick stain with hairspray, mix equal parts ammonia and water in a spray bottle. Spray onto a cloth and wait one to two minutes. Clean the stain with a towel or sponge and repeat if necessary.
Method 4 of 4: Commercial stain removers
1 Choose a commercial stain remover that is safe for the fabric you are cleaning. Stain removers come in the form of detergents, sprays and aerosols. Choose the type of product that best suits your needs. Read labels carefully to determine which type of product is best for removing lipstick from your type of fabric.
2 Test the stain remover on an inconspicuous area of fabric to make sure it won't discolor or discolor. If this happens, wash off the product immediately and do not use it.
3 Determine if the stain remover is safe for your fabric. If ok, follow the directions on the label to clean the lipstick stain without compromising the integrity of the fabric.
Tips
- If home and commercial remedies fail to remove the stain even after reapplying, take the item to a dry cleaner. They have many ways to remove stubborn stains.
Warnings
- Do not remove the lipstick stain from the fabric without reading the information on the item's label. If only dry cleaning is listed, do not try to deal with the stain yourself.
