1 Cast on a chain of 8 stitches. Attach the working thread to the hook using a slip knot, and then, grabbing the working thread, knit 8 air loops (VP).
  • Refer to the Tips section if you are not skilled at making a slip knot or crochet stitches.
  • 2 Work double crochet stitches. Tie 10 double crochet stitches (cc2n) in the fourth loop from the hook vp. All 10 stitches should be knitted in the same overhead stitch.
    • Please note that to the left of the hook you should have 4 free bins.
    • You will learn how to link ss2n in the "Tips" section.
  • 3 Make one double crochet. Tie 1 double crochet (ssn) for the back half of the next loop of your chain.
    • At this stage, there will be 3 free VPs on the chain.
    • You will also find instructions for knitting ssn in the Tips section at the end of this article.
  • 4 Tie a half double crochet. For the back wall of the next loop of the air chain, you need to knit one half-double crochet (psn).
    • You should have 2 free VPs left in the base chain.
    • In the "Tips" section, you will learn how to tie a psn.
  • 5 Tie a single crochet. Knit 1 single crochet (sc) into the next loop of the chain.
    • Now you have only one free runner.
    • In the "Soviets" it is described in detail how to link the sbn.
  • 6 Make a connecting post. In the last free loop of the chain, you need to tie a connecting post (ch). Now one side of your leaf is ready.
    • If you do not know how to do it, please refer to the "Tips" section.
  • 7 Reverse the work and repeat the steps in reverse order. Rotate your work so that the loose loops are on the left. Now you need to repeat the last steps of the previous row in reverse order, gradually increasing the side of the leaf.
    • Each of the loops of this row should be knitted behind the back wall of the bp.
    • Knit ch into the first loop.
    • In the second loop, tie one sb.
    • In the third loop, tie one pssn.
    • In the fourth loop, you need to knit one PRS.
  • 8 Close the row. Tie ch into the first top loop of the ss2n group.
    • If you followed all the steps correctly, the outer edge of your leaf is flat and uniform.
  • 9 Secure and cut the working thread. Cut the working thread, leaving a 5 cm section. Pull the resulting ponytail through the last loop on the hook and tighten the knot properly.
    • Use a crochet needle to hide the ends of the threads between the knitted loops.
    • The leaf is ready.
  • Method 2 of 3: Rounded Leaf

    1. 1 Tie a chain of 9 stitches. Attach the working thread to the hook with a sliding loop and tie a chain of 9 st.
      • This chain will become the middle of your future leaf.
    2. 2 Tie the single crochet into a base chain. Tie 1 sbn into the second loop of the chain from the hook. Complete the row by knitting one sc in each of the subsequent loops of your chain and making 1 ch to lift.
      • You should get 8 sc.
      • Having knitted the last, eighth, sbn, turn the work.
    3. 3 Work the second row, alternating single crochet and half crochet stitches. In each of the loops of the previous row, you will need to knit the sbn and pssn groups.
      • Knit one sc in the first 3 loops of the previous row.
      • Work 1 pssn in each of 2 subsequent loops.
        • The pssn you linked will form the rounded outer edge of your leaflet.
      • In the next 3 loops, knit again one sbn.
    4. 4 Tie a chain stitch. When you reach the end of the row, knit 1 ch.
    5. 5 Repeat the pattern just knitted on the opposite side of the leaf. Knit each column strictly over the columns of the previous row (aka the base chain).
      • Skip the VP you just knitted.
      • Knit 1 sc in the next 3 loops.
      • Knit one pssn in the next 2 loops.
      • Tie 3 sb again, one in each of the remaining three stitches.
    6. 6 Complete the row by tying ch into the first buttonhole of the opposite row.
      • This cn connects the two ends of your leaf together. Having linked sn, you will see that you have got an even rounded sheet.
    7. 7 Secure the working thread and hide the ends. Cut the working thread, leaving a 5-10 cm tail. Pull the tail through the last eyelet on the hook and tighten the knot properly.
      • You can cut off half of the ponytail and hide it between the knitted eyelets with a crochet needle, or leave the ponytail loose.
      • Your rounded piece of paper is ready.

Method 3 of 3: Pointed leaf

    1. 1 Make a chain of 10 ch. Fasten the working thread on the hook with a sliding loop and knit 10 VP.
    2. 2 Tie single crochet stitches. Tie 1 sc in the second from the hook in the chain, then another sc in the next loop. Stitches need to be knitted for both halves of the loop.
      • Each of the columns of this row is knitted for both halves of the VP.
      • Make sure that after two knitted sbn you have 7 free VPs on the chain.
      • If you do not know how to tie a particular column, you can always refer to the "Tips" section at the end of this article.
    3. 3 Work in a half and double crochet. In the next loop of the chain, tie 1 pssn and 1 ssn into the adjacent loop.
    4. 4 Link two more PRSs. Knit 2 PRSs in the next loop of the chain. Both stitches should be knitted with water and the same stitch.
    5. 5 Repeat the pattern in reverse order. In order to complete the row, you need to repeat the previous steps in reverse order.
      • Do not repeat 2 PRSs with a common base.
      • In the next loop, tie 1 PRS.
      • Tie the psn into the next loop.
      • Complete the row by tying 1 sc in each of the remaining two loops.
    6. 6 Make vp. Make one stitch from the loop remaining on the hook.
    7. 7 Tie the other half of the leaf, repeating the entire pattern. In order to complete the second row, you need to exactly repeat the pattern of the first row. You need to knit the posts for the free single loops of the base chain.
      • Work one single crochet into each of the first two stitches.
      • Tie 1 psn in the third loop.
      • Knit 2 PRSs in the fourth loop.
      • 1 PRS in the fifth loop.
      • 1 psn in the sixth.
      • Complete the row by tying one sc in the seventh and eighth stitches.
    8. 8 Close the rows with sn. Slip into the first stitch of the base chain to complete your leaflet. Now you just have to tie it up.
    9. 9 Tie ch into the first top loop.
      • In the strapping row, the columns, as in the previous rows, are knitted for both halves of the loops.
      • The strapping row is needed in order to form the sharp ends of the sheet.
    10. 10 In the second loop, tie 1 sbn and tie 2 VP.
      • The 2-ch chain should be loose, otherwise the sharp tip will be invisible.
    11. 11 Make a picot. Form a picot by tying cn into the second loop from the hook, and then knitting another sc in the same loop.
      • Insert the hook into the second eyelet and grab the working thread. Pull the working thread through the loop and eyelet on the crochet hook. You may not be very comfortable with this snooze, so take your time.
      • The first sharp corner of your sheet is ready.
    12. 12 Repeat the pattern for 6 more picots. The rest of the picots are performed in the same way as the first.
      • Tie one ch into the next 2 loops.
      • Make a second picot in the third loop. Tie 1 sbn, 2 ch, 1 sb into the second loop from the hook, 1 sbn, all in one loop.
      • Repeat 5 more times.
      • After knitting the last picot, complete the row with sn at the base of the sheet.
    13. 13 Form a stem. From the base of the sheet, tie 4 ch. Tie 1 ch in the second from the hook bp, and then one ch at a time in the two remaining loops.
    14. 14 Tie a chain in the middle of the sheet. Insert the hook into the base of the sheet, near the middle. Grab the working thread, pull it to the right side, and pull it through the loop on the hook.
      • Insert the hook into the next loop at the base and repeat the steps in the previous step.
      • Continue to knit a kind of pigtail, moving up the sheet. When you reach the top of the leaf, you should have an 8-9 stitch pigtail.
      • Try not to tighten the loops and knit loosely, otherwise, the sheet will not be flat, but curl up.
      • The pigtail will not only hide the holes from the loops in the middle, but will also function as the skeleton of the leaf.
    15. 15 Secure the thread. Cut the working thread, leaving a 10 cm ponytail. Pull the ponytail through the eyelet on the hook and tighten the knot.
      • Thread a ponytail into a knitting needle and hide the thread between the crocheted stitches to secure the work and give it an aesthetic look.
      • Your spiky leaf is ready.

    Tips

    • To make a slip loop:
      • Create a loop by passing the loose end of the yarn over with the yarn coming from the ball.
      • With the thread from the ball under the loop, thread it through the loop, and then tighten the first loop.
      • Insert the hook into the resulting loop, and tighten it on the hook, pulling the ponytail and the thread from the ball at the same time. The slip knot is ready.
    • To tie an air loop (VP):
      • After you have secured the thread with the slip loop, hook the thread coming from the ball (working thread) and pull it through the loop on the hook.
      • Your VP is ready. Repeat this step as many times as necessary.
    • To tie a single crochet (sc):
      • Insert the hook into the loop of the previous row.
      • Grab a working thread and pull it through the loop. You should have 2 loops on your hook.
      • Grab the working thread again and pull it through both eyelets on the hook.
      • Now you have only 1 loop left on the hook. Your PR is ready.
    • To tie a double crochet (ssn):
      • With the working thread behind the hook, wrap the hook around the thread 1 time.
      • Insert the hook into the desired eyelet on the previous row.
      • Grab the working thread and pull it through the loop. Now you have 3 loops on your hook.
      • Grab the working thread again and pull it through the first 2 loops on the crochet hook. Now you have 2 loops left on your hook.
      • Grab the working thread again and pull it through the remaining 2 loops on the hook. You should have only 1 loop on the hook and your ssn is ready.
    • To make a connecting post (ch):
      • Insert the hook into the desired loop.
      • Grab a working thread.
      • Pull the working thread through all the eyelets on the hook. Only 1 loop should remain on the hook. Your SN is ready!
    • To tie a column with two crochets (ss2n):
      • Wrap the hook around the working thread 2 times.
      • Insert the hook into the desired loop.
      • Grab a working thread and pull it through the loop.
      • Grab the working thread again and pull it through the first two loops on the hook.
      • Grab the working thread again and pull it through the next 2 loops.
      • Grab the working thread one last time and pull it through the remaining 2 loops. Your ss2n is ready.
    • To tie a half-column with a crochet (psn):
      • Wrap the hook around the working thread once.
      • Insert the hook into the desired loop.
      • Grab a working thread and pull it through the loop. You now have 3 loops on your hook.
      • Grab the working thread again and pull it through all 3 loops on the hook. Your psn is ready.
