Concrete walls serve a variety of purposes. They can be decorative in a yard or garden, they can be retaining and contain soil and water, or they can constrain property. Many people decide in favor of brick walls, but it is much safer and more reliable to pour concrete into a pre-made frame. This article will teach you how to build concrete walls for various needs.

Steps

  1. 1 Measure out the area on which the wall will be located, and drive in the pillars in the corners. Tie a rope between the posts. It will serve as a vector so you know which direction to dig.
  2. 2 Dig a trench in the area where the wall will be. You must dig down below the freezing point, which is usually 30 cm deep. If you are building a retaining wall on a slope, make sure the bottom of the hole you dug is level.
  3. 3 Measure and cut the pieces of plywood and dig them into the ground so that they are about 10 cm higher than the final height of your wall. These pieces of plywood will create a shape along the entire length of the wall.
  4. 4 Attach small blocks of wood to the inside of the plywood at approximately 60cm intervals. They will serve to distribute the concrete and prevent cracking.
  5. 5 Place the mold in the dug hole. Make sure it is level. Secure it to the ground with stakes or something heavy. The form must be sufficiently secured to remain firm after the superstructure.

Concrete is fragile enough to break like a piece of toasted bread. Therefore, it would be ideal to use a mesh in order to give it flexible strength.

# Knead the concrete. The type and quality of the concrete solution will depend on the size and nature of your wall.

  1. 1 Pour the concrete from the wheelbarrow into the mold.
    • Keep a fresh batch of concrete ready as you go. Pour the concrete as quickly and evenly as possible so that all parts of the wall dry at the same time.
    • If you will be filling the wall with concrete, comb the top to create a nice texture. If you will be placing a stone or something on top, do so while the concrete is still wet.
  2. 2 When you reach the top of the wall, level it with a trowel.
  3. 3 Wait at least half a day for the concrete to dry.
  4. 4 Delete the form.

Tips

  • Tap the top of the concrete with a trowel to distribute water and avoid air bubbles.
  • If you are building a high wall, build a wheelbarrow ramp to make it easier for you to pour concrete. If the wall is too big to pour all at once, add a piece of plywood to separate the hole so that you can pour the concrete in two pieces.
  • If you are building a retaining wall on a slope, add auxiliary boards to the frame so that they reach a safe place on the ground. This will protect the frame from sagging while pouring the concrete.
  • If engine oil is applied to the surface of a wooden frame, it will be easier to remove.
