Washing towels is a weekly task that goes a long way in maintaining hygiene and freshness. Towels that have been thoroughly washed will last longer, saving you money and time on shopping. This article proposes to consider the procedure for cleaning towels, as well as a homemade laundry mixture.

Steps

1. 1 Wash towels weekly. If necessary, wash towels earlier if they get dirty.

Method 2 of 2: Drying the towels

• Always read the towel care label. Some may have special instructions for decorations, colors, etc. that are specific to your brand or type of towel.
• Wash new towels separately to avoid staining other towels.
• If you wash multi-colored towels, wash the dark towels separately from the light ones. It can take up to four washes for the color of the new towels to “set”.

Warnings

• Do not use chlorine bleach. The bleach will weaken the fibers and eventually tear the towels much earlier than usual.
• Always hang towels in the bathroom to dry them completely; mold can quickly grow on towels left on the bathroom floor or on a pile of clothes in the laundry basket.
• Do not use commercial fabric softeners; they reduce the absorbency of the towel and leave a waxy coating on the towels. Vinegar, on the other hand, both softens and helps set colors.
