Polyester (polyester) is a synthetic fabric that, with proper care, generally does not wrinkle, fade or shrink. Despite the fact that it can peel off and easily get dirty from oil stains, polyester is a durable fabric used for many types of clothing that people wear every day. Polyester is also used to create blends that make cotton and other fabrics more durable. Use these tips to easily and effectively wash polyester.

Steps

1. 1 Wash knitted garments containing polyester fibers inside out. Knitted fabric containing polyester can easily snag on fasteners, jewelry, buttons, or other items. Turn polyester garments inside out before throwing polyester garments into the washing machine to avoid unraveling or damage to the garment. While turning is unnecessary with other fabrics containing polyester, it can prevent fading in some garments.
2. 2 When washing polyester garments, use warm water and regular detergent. Cold water may not remove polyester stains efficiently, especially oily stains. Hot water can cause paint to shrink and drip gradually. Warm water will help remove stains and keep the garment in shape and size. Pour in some fabric softener to remove static.
3. 3 Dry your polyester garment in the dryer with the coldest setting. Check the drying process regularly. Polyester garments that take too long to dry or in extremely hot settings can shrink and cause discomfort when worn. When properly dried, polyester dries quickly and retains its shape. A drying sheet can help remove static effects in the dryer. Polyester fabrics can also be air dried, but it is important to keep them out of direct sunlight. When air drying, return the garment to its shape before hanging it or unfolding it to dry.
4. 4 Soak white clothes overnight in a mixture of 1 liter of water and 1/2 cup of dishwasher detergent. Dishwasher detergent will help brighten the whiteness of your clothes. Regular bleaching can be too harsh for polyester garments.
5. 5 To clean polyester garments, hand wash them. Rinse it in warm water and then rinse it in clean water. To dry hand-washed garments, fold them and press them against the wall of the basin to squeeze out excess water. Clothes that are oily or yellowed from time to time should be machine washed to restore them to their original condition.

Tips

• Always read the care label before attempting to wash or clean clothes. If the label says “dry cleaning only”, then such clothes should be taken to a professional dry cleaner, and not tried to be washed at home. However, if the label says “dry cleaning”, then it can often be washed by hand without any problems.
