Academic papers are often framed in the APA style. An essay or dissertation that refers to another person must be correctly described in the text and in the bibliography to avoid plagiarism. Learn to reference APA interviews correctly.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Quoting Personal Interviews

1. 1 Depending on whether the interview was conducted by you or another person and published in a book or online, you will use two different citation styles.
   • The reference to personal interviews is carried out only in the text itself; it should not be in the list of used literature.
2. 2 Describe the interview you referenced in the text of your work. If you are making a reference to an unknown discussion or some kind of evidence from an interview, you need to bring a story to it describing and conducting this interview.
3. 3 The text of the interview must be written in quotation marks. This means that the entire quote must be written in quotation marks after the last sentence.
   • Start with the name of the person being interviewed. Write the first name as follows: the initial of the first name, a period, and then the full surname. Put a comma after the last name.
4. 4 After the name, write information about "personal communication", and put a full stop at the end.
5. 5 End with the date of the interview. Close the quotes. Continue writing your work.

Method 2 of 3: Citing a Published Interview

1. 1 Include the interview in the bibliography if it was published in a magazine or other publication. The following describes how to refer to the interview published in the magazine.
2. 2 Start with your last name and then put in a comma. After that, write the initial of the name, and put a period at the end.
3. 3 Enclose the date of issue in parentheses. The date format should be as follows: year, full month, day.
   • For example, "(2012, January 14)."
4. 4 Enter the title of the article. Write the title in the same way as it is written in the magazine. Put a full stop after the title.
5. 5 Write the title of the publication in italics. Place a comma after the name.
6. 6 Enter the volume number, then add a comma.
7. 7 Finish quoting with a page number, separating consecutive pages with a hyphen. Always place your entries in alphabetical order.

Method 3 of 3: Citing the interview as an audio file

1. 1 Start with the interviewer's last name, then put a comma, then the initial of the name. Put a period after the initial of the name. Write the word "Interviewer" in parentheses.
   • Place an ampersand between the interviewer's name and the interviewee.
2. 2 Enter the name of the interviewee. Write the first name in the same format: last name, comma, initial of the first name and period. In parentheses, write the word “interviewee” and put a full stop at the end.
3. 3 Indicate the year of the interview in parentheses. Put a period after the parentheses.
4. 4 Write the name of the audio file or its transcription in italics.
5. 5 In square brackets, write the type of interview medium, such as “interview transcription” or “audio file”. Add a period after the square brackets.
6. 6 Write where you found this interview. Use the phrase "Taken from" and write the name of the source, project or site. If you have a link to the source, write it in square brackets, or put a period if you don't.
7. 7 Provide a link to the source, if any. At the end, put a full stop.
