Temari is a traditional Japanese ball-shaped toy. Temari from Japanese translates as "Hand ball". It will take you about 20 minutes to make Temari.
Steps
- 1 Get the materials you need.
- 2 You will need styrene foam. Form a ball out of the foam. Cut it in half and cut a small hole inside.
- 3 Place a small, jingle ball or other noisy object in the center of the ball. Reattach the two halves of the ball together.
- 4 Cut two rectangles out of an old piece of material or bedspread. They should cover 3/4 of the surface of the ball in length and half of the surface of the ball in width.
- 5 Wrap the ball in shreds of material.
- 6 Connect two pieces of material together using pins or other items.
- 7 Wrap the material so that it sticks to the surface of the ball with pins.
- 8 Cut off any excess material, leaving the pins in place.
- 9 Take a colored thread and wrap it around the ball.
- 10 Remove the pins as soon as the string is wrapped around the ball tightly enough so that no pieces of material fall off the ball.
- 11 Continue wrapping the thread around the surface of the ball until you have covered it all over.
- 12Cut the thread, sew the end of the thread into the ball so that it does not unwind.
- 13 Take pins and mark two opposite points on both hemispheres of your ball.
- 14 You can now embroider colored embroidery on the surface of your ball. If you want to see the different designs of Temari balls, take a look on the internet at Google Pictures.
- 15No material should stick out from the surface of the ball.
- 16 The Temari balloon can be used as a toy, decoration or gift for a child or pet.
Tips
- Any thick piece of material, such as an old blanket, will work as material for wrapping the ball.
- Wrap the ball well so that it doesn't fall apart later.
Warnings
- Take proper care of your instrument.
