Saving text messages is an important feature of smartphones these days. Nobody likes to lose messages, especially if they contain important information. On an Android device, you can save your messages to your Gmail account. So even if you lose your phone, you will still have access to important messages.

Steps

  1. 1 Customize your Gmail settings.
    • Sign in to your Gmail account.
    • Find the settings button in the drop down tab at the top right side of the interface.
    • Click on Forwarding and POP / IMAP.
    • Check the Enable IMAP checkbox. Save your changes by scrolling down the screen and clicking the Save button below.
  2. 2 Download SMS Backup + from the Play Store. Search for this app in the Play Store and download it to your phone. Run the application after installation.
  3. 3 Set up SMS Backup +. After launching the application, click on “Connect” to link your Gmail and your phone.
    • You will be prompted to sign in to your Gmail account on your phone.
    • After logging in, you will be prompted to authorize this application to link to your account. Just click on “Grant Access” in the window that appears.
  4. 4 Back up your messages. After completing the above steps, a pop-up window from the application will appear and ask you if you want to back up your messages now.
    • Do this by clicking on “Backup.” This will automatically sync your messages with your Gmail account.
  5. 5 Confirm the backup by checking your Gmail. Go back to your PC or laptop, log into your Gmail again.
    • You will see the “SMS” folder on the left side of your email interface. Open this folder and you will see all your messages there.
