Vinyl stickers are specially designed to be glued to glass and are designed to stay on for a long time. Unfortunately, this is what makes the process of their further removal long and laborious. Removing the sticker too aggressively can damage the glass. The correct methods and proper tools will help remove the sticker and any glue residue without damaging the car glass.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: Scrape off the sticker

  1. 1 Heat it up with a hairdryer. The high temperature weakens the adhesive, making it easier to remove.Use the highest temperature setting of the hair dryer. Hold the flare directly over the decal until the edges begin to wrinkle.
    • A heat gun (building hair dryer) is also perfect. It is commonly used to shorten the drying time of the adhesive and is sold at any hardware store. This tool has a higher operating temperature than a hair dryer and is therefore better suited for large or particularly stubborn decals.
  2. 2 Use a plastic blade. Most stores that specialize in home improvement can find plastic blades for removing stickers and other adhesive backed items from a flat surface. The use of a plastic blade reduces the risk of damage to the glass.
    • Slowly slide the blade under the edge and gradually remove the sticker along with the adhesive backing from the glass surface. Try to keep the knife as parallel to the surface as possible to reduce the risk of damaging the glass.
    • Pay attention to the "Li'l Chizler" tool, which is specially designed to remove the adhesive layer from the glass surface.
    • You will be able to remove the sticker as soon as the edge has risen enough. Old stickers are likely to come off in small chunks and are usually more difficult to remove.
  3. 3 Use a plastic card as a tool. Use a credit card or library pass if you don't have a plastic blade. Remove the adhesive layer by holding the card parallel to the glass and slowly pushing it under the sticker.
  4. 4 Use a razor blade. A razor blade is the most effective tool for removing adhesive backing, but it also increases the likelihood of glass breakage. That is why the razor blade should be used only as a last resort, when the use of a plastic scraper does not justify itself. Keep the blade at a minimum angle to the glass and cut off the sticker in small pieces.
    • Do not flip the blade the other way, if it is dull or no longer helps, it is better to take a new one.

Part 2 of 2: Remove any glue residue

  1. 1 Spray on to remove adhesive residue. It is likely that glue marks will remain on the surface, regardless of whether you cut or scraped off the sticker. The adhesive residue remover is a chemical spray formulated specifically to break down the adhesive. You can buy it at any hardware store. A citrus-based glass cleaner is also fine.
    • Apply chemicals to the remaining glue and wait for five minutes; then try to wipe off the glue with a paper towel.
    • Both types of the proposed products are non-toxic, but it is nevertheless necessary to avoid direct contact with the skin.
  2. 2 Use a drill attachment to remove the tape / adhesive strips. You can invest in a glue strip remover if you are dealing with a large sticker or are having difficulty removing glue residue. This homogeneous rubber wheel can be attached to any drill and used to remove glue. Such a nozzle can be found in a hardware store for about 1,200 rubles.
  3. 3 Wipe with a rag. Remove all chemicals or decal residue with a lint-free cloth. Wipe the surface gently to remove liquid and leave no streaks.
