1 Prepare cleaning supplies. For a start, it's good to know what you need to clean your brushes for !? They can be stored indefinitely in the freezer. Therefore, the main reason brushes should be cleaned is because the freezer is too small to hold all of them; or because brushes are often used. Storing brushes in this way (in the freezer) is much more environmentally friendly than washing them, because oil paints do not go well with the environment. If you can store your brushes in the freezer, simply wrap them in foil. If you have a lot of brushes, you can attach tags to the foil.

• Prepare a rag (or paper towels), dish soap, container, or jar.

2 Use a rag to wipe off as much paint as possible.

3 Pour dish detergent into a container.

4 Stir in the detergent with a brush. Do not add water.

5 Wipe off any detergent and paint that will come off with it.

6 Repeat this process until all paint has been washed off.

7 Ready.

Tips

• After brushing, wipe the hair bun with a dye drying agent and expose the brush to the sun.
• Some artists always clean their brushes with dishwashing detergent only. Although this method takes longer than brushing with turpentine, some find the effect to be milder and therefore last longer.

Warnings

• Your brush will not be as clean as it would be if you washed it in turpentine. But this method will help preserve the brush if there is no turpentine.
