1 Melt the sugar. Place sugar in a heavy medium saucepan and cook over medium heat until caramelized. You don't have to stir, just turn the pan occasionally. It will smell delicious!
  • 2 Add honey and lemon juice with a wooden spoon. Be careful: sugar will very frothy and hot.
    • Stir until the mixture melts and becomes a pancake batter. If the mixture is too thick, add water (one tablespoon at a time) until you reach the desired consistency.
  • 3 Let the wax cool slightly before using it. If you want to apply it later, let it cool and then refrigerate.
  • Part 2 of 2: Applying wax

    1. 1 Check the length of the hair you want to remove. Ideally, the hair should be 3-6 mm long.
      • If the hair is too short, the wax will not be able to pull it out by the root.
      • If your hair is too long, you will experience great discomfort.
    2. 2 Prepare strips of fabric. To do this, you can cut or tear a cotton or linen shirt.
      • Sew the uneven edges with a sewing machine.
    3. 3 Sprinkle some baby powder on your skin before applying the wax. Baby powder or cornstarch will absorb sebum and moisture, which will better adhere the wax to your hair (rather than your skin). This will make the process much less painful.
    4. 4 Apply wax. Using a wooden spatula or flat stick, apply the wax in the direction of hair growth.
    5. 5 Press the fabric against the wax. Take a piece of fabric, place it on top of the wax, and stroke in the direction of hair growth.
    6. 6 Let the wax cool completely. Pull lightly on the bottom edge of the fabric strip and see if it adheres well.
    7. 7 Remove the strip. Briskly remove a strip of fabric against directions of hair growth. Do it very quickly. Pull the fabric at a sharp angle, not 90 °.
    8. 8 Store the remaining wax in the refrigerator. You can store it there for a couple of weeks or a couple of months, but in the freezer.

    Tips

    • If the mixture is frozen before you apply it, reheat it with a double boiler.
    • If there are traces of the mixture on the skin, then rinse this area with warm water. If that doesn't work, then boil water and add 1 tablespoon of baking soda to it. Let the water cool and rinse the skin again.
    • If you are waxing a prominent area, such as your face, you can apply a cooling gel after waxing to reduce redness. If your skin is prone to redness, then carry out this procedure on a day when you do not plan to go out.
    • Exfoliate with a scrub or loofah two days before waxing.

    Warnings

    • Do not microwave the wax as it will not heat up evenly and very hot spots may form. Instead, heat the wax in a bowl of hot water.
    • Remember to check the temperature of the wax very carefully before applying it to your skin.
