1 Pick up your shoes. The first step is to find the right pair of shoes. Since this is a creative endeavor, you probably don't intend to spend a lot of money on a new pair of shoes, but you still need to cover it with glitter.
  • Old comfortable shoes will work best. If you don't have one, look for a good pair in your size at thrift stores.
  • The color does not really matter - anyway, the shoes will be covered with a layer of glitter, and their original color will not be visible.
  • Smooth high-heeled shoes or flat ballet flats are perfect for this type of work as they are easy to glitter over. Shoes with laces or straps will require more effort and the glitter will crumble much faster.
  • 2 Find the right glitter. The sequins you choose will determine what the finished shoes look like. It is important to choose very small glitters, not large ones. Many people recommend Martha Stewart glitter, but generally any will do.
    • Small sequins will give the shoe a sleek, finished look, while large sequins will be uneven and rough.
    • Glitter of any color will do. You can make the shoes monochromatic, or you can glue the shoes with spots, alternating sequins of different colors. You can even mix glitter and create a rainbow effect - it's up to you!
    • If you are making shoes for a particular piece of clothing, take them with you to a craft store to match the exact color of glitter.
  • 3 Take the glue. The choice of glue is just as important as the choice of glitters in order to get a good result. A good glue will adhere smoothly and adhere the glitter firmly to the shoe.
    • The best glue for this job is Mod Podge. This is glue, sealant and topcoat - three in one! You can choose a matte or glossy finish, any will do.
    • If you can't find Mod Podge glue, Elmer's Glue combined with Martha Stewart glitter glue is a good alternative. If you don't find any of these options, use a good fabric glue.
  • 4 Prepare additional accessories. Along with the items listed above, you will need a number of additional accessories to make your glitter shoes.
    • Take an old newspaper to cover your workplace. This is very important, unless you are worried about the glitter scattering everywhere.
    • Take a plastic cup or bowl for glitter and glue, plus a plastic spoon or wooden stick to stir them.
    • Choose a pair of fine-bristled brushes: one for applying glitter glue and one for applying the final glue.
    • Find duct tape or masking tape to keep the glitter on the sole.
  • Part 2 of 2: Applying the adhesive

    1. 1 Clean your shoes. Before you get down to business, it's a good idea to make sure your shoes are completely clean, as you most likely don't want any dirt left behind under the glitter. It is especially important to pay attention to this if you are pasting old or second-hand shoes. Clean the shoes thoroughly with a brush or paper towel with water, and be sure to dry well.
    2. 2 Cover the sole of your shoes with duct tape. While you may want to skip this step to save time, it is highly recommended that you tape the sole of your shoes with duct tape.
      • No matter how neat you are, the glitter glue will still get on the outsole, and when you put on your shoes, they will leave sequin marks everywhere you step.
      • Cover the sole of your shoes with strips of duct tape or masking tape, cutting off any excess around the edges. If you are using high heels, be sure to tape the small area at the base of the heel.
      • You can also stuff the inside of your shoes with newspaper or plastic bags to keep the glitter glue from getting there.
    3. 3 Mix glitter with glue. The fun begins! Pour Mod Podge glue (or whatever you choose to use) into a plastic bowl or glass, add glitter and stir well. The mixture should be about two parts glue and one part glitter. It should be quite thick, like a paste.
      • It is very important to get the right consistency. If there is too much glue, you will have to apply a ton of layers for the desired effect. And if there is too much glitter, the coating will be too thick.
    4. 4 Apply the first coat of glitter. Dip a fine-bristled brush in glitter glue and start applying the first coat to your shoes. It should not be too thick, it is much better to apply several thin coats than one thick one.
      • Don't worry if the glue looks white when you apply it. When it dries, it will become transparent.
      • After evenly covering both shoes with glitter glue, place them to dry somewhere out of reach of curious pets and children!
      • Cover the glitter glue mixture with plastic wrap to keep it from drying out.
    5. 5 Apply the second and third layers of glitter. When the first coat is dry, you can apply a second and then a third coat of glitter (each coat must dry before applying the next).
      • If you like, you can sprinkle more glitter on your shoes while the glue is still wet. This will add more shine and a subtle 3D effect!
      • After applying the third layer, the shoes should be evenly covered with glitter, there should be no unpainted spots through which the original color of the shoes will show through.
      • If unpainted spots still remain, you can apply as many layers as necessary to paint over them.
    6. 6 We fix the sparkles. When the last coat is dry, you will need to apply a top coat of clean glue to hold the glitter in place and prevent shedding.
      • Pour fresh Mod Podge into a clean plastic bowl or cup and use another brush to apply a thin, even coat to the surface of the shoe.
      • Alternatively, you can spray your shoes with acrylic or polyurethane spray. It will also set the glitter quite effectively.
    7. 7 Let the shoes dry. After finishing a coat of glue or spray, place the shoes in a well-ventilated area and let them dry well. It is best to leave them to dry overnight. Make sure that no one touches them, put them away from small, curious hands and feet.
    8. 8 Add additional details. If you like, you can add additional details to the shoes, such as rhinestones or heart-shaped buckles, which can be glued on with a hot glue gun. Most importantly, do not forget that these shoes already look very glamorous, so don't overdo it!
    9. 9 Remove the tape and you can put it on. Now that your sequined shoes are ready, all that's left is to remove the tape from the soles and put this adorable on the dance floor. Don't forget to take a photo of your heels!

    Tips

    • Another way to cover your shoes with glitter is to spread a layer of clean glue on the shoes, and then spoon the glitter onto the shoes. Shake to shed excess glitter, dry and repeat the process. This method is very effective, but much messier than the previous one.

    Warnings

    • Although you applied a finishing coat of glue to secure the glitter, the glue will wear out over time with regular wear. Don't worry, all you have to do is paint over the shoes with a new coat of glitter glue and reattach them with glue.
