1 The tape is very easy to make from an empty plastic lemonade bottle. This ribbon can be used to make artificial flowers, as well as bracelets and other homemade jewelry.
  • 2 Sit down and pinch your hair dryer (or heat gun) between your knees. Heat the strip of plastic and twist it in opposite directions with both hands. Remember, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) softens at 70ºC.
  • 3 Pull the strip away from the hair dryer periodically to allow it to cool slightly and take shape.
  • 4 Continue until the desired part of the strip is curled the way you want.
  • Tips

    Experiment

    With a heat gun: Set it to "300 ℃ / 280 L" with a digital thermometer. Hot air temperature: (From the hole) for 15cm> 100 ℃, and for 20cm> 80 ℃.

With a hair dryer: the optimum temperature will be near the hair dryer hole.

    • Experiment with twisting the tape. A tight spiral looks very different from a large, loose spiral.
    • Pull on the tape and make sure it is straight.
    • Select the width of the future tape and spiral by changing the width of the plastic strip that you will cut from the bottle.
    • For added strength, tie or roll several plastic straps together.

    Warnings

    • If you set the temperature too high, or the plastic is exposed to hot air for too long, it will begin to melt and break (read below for toxicity and health risks).
    • The hair dryer / heat gun will definitely get warm. We recommend that you wear pants while working to avoid getting burned. This is not a job that children should do.
    • During melting of the plastic, toxic fumes can be released. Please constantly monitor the temperature so that the plastic just softens and does not melt. Don't melt them. Try to do this in a well-ventilated area, or outdoors.
