Content

Your friend posted something funny on Facebook that you would like to share with your friends? Facebook allows you to quickly repost (republish) content posted by other people (including adjustments to statistics, images, videos, and more). By using the Share function on a friend's post, you will essentially create a new post without any likes or comments. If you want to save "likes" and comments to a post, then vote for it yourself (or comment on it), so it will rise to the top line of your friends' news feeds.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Reposting with Preserving Comments and Likes

  1. 1 Find the content you want to republish to your feed. If during republishing you want to keep "likes" and comments on a post or image, then you will need to leave your comment. You can leave a comment on someone else's post or image.
    • You can also use this method to re-publish an old post that was created by you or your friend. Find the original (original) post (you may have to go back in the chronicle to do this) and then read it.
    • This is not really "reposting", but it is the only way to raise a post to the top position in feeds without losing "likes" and comments. If you apply the Share function to a post, a new post will be created without any likes or comments.
  2. 2 Leave a comment for the post or picture you want to republish. Thus, it will be raised to the top position in your feed and will appear in your friends' feeds. You can do the same with old posts that you want to return to the top positions, as well as with posts that your friends might not otherwise notice.
    • You can also vote for the old post, but in this case it is unlikely that it will end up in the top position.
  3. 3 Do not use the Share button if you want to save comments and likes. Otherwise, a new post with the same content will be created in your own feed. The original comments and likes will not be saved, but you will have full control over the post.

Method 2 of 2: Sharing Content with Friends

  1. 1 Find what you want to republish. You can republish just about anything that has ever been published by anyone. Scroll through your feed to find a data, image, link, or any other post you'd like to share with others. The only posts that you will not be able to republish are those from secret (closed) groups.
    • In this case, you will not be able to save the "likes" and comments of the original (original) post. If you want to republish materials published by someone else and at the same time keep all the "likes" and comments, then you will need to leave your comment on the original post.
  2. 2 Click on the Share button. It is located below the post, but above the likes and comments.
  3. 3 Choose where you would like to republish your content. When you click on the Share button, a new window will appear. Use the drop-down menu at the top of the new window to select where the content will be republished. You can share them in your own timeline, in a friend's timeline, in one of your groups, or in a private message.
    • If you choose to share content in your friend's Chronicle, you will be prompted to enter the friend's name.
    • If you choose to share content with a group, you will be prompted to enter a name for the group.
    • If you decide to share materials in a private message, then you will be prompted to specify the recipients of the message.
  4. 4 Add a new message. When you republish something, you are given the option to add a new post. This message appears at the top of the republished content, and all initial messages appear below.
    • You can tag people in a message by typing "@" (without quotes) in front of the person's name.
  5. 5 Adjust the attributes of the original post. By default, when you share a post, the name of the person who posted it first is displayed. You may want to remove this information: click on "Remove" next to the name of the author of the original post.
  6. 6 Adjust your privacy settings. You can use the dropdown menu at the bottom of the window to choose which of your friends can see your repost. You can make it public, visible only to your friends, visible only to you, or you can choose from your custom lists those to whom it will be visible.
  7. 7 Share the post. Once you are satisfied with the settings, you can republish the post by clicking on the Share button. The repost will appear in the chronicle or in private messages (according to your choice).
    • Depending on the privacy settings of the original post, you may not be able to share it with everyone.

Tips

  • These steps also work on mobile versions of Facebook.
  • If there is no Share button next to the post, then you will have to copy and paste the content of the post on your own Facebook page.
