If you are going to make a bridge model as an engineering project, we will show you how to make it with wooden studs and threads.

Steps

  1. 1 Select the type of bridge to model:
    • Warren.
    • Pratt.
    • Hau.
    • Arched.
    • Own design. You can follow the principles of building model structures using the links provided in the Sources and References section at the bottom of this article.
  2. 2 Make a plan of the bridge using the correct scale. Use checkerboard paper so it will be easier to scale and measure.
  3. 3 Take the wooden sticks-hairpins and start building the bridge. Follow the plan. Trim the studs to the correct size.
  4. 4 Tie the pins with a strong thread. In problem areas, add a little glue to the knot.
  5. 5 Test the bridge for strength. It must meet basic safety criteria. All threads should be tightened in tight knots and nothing should wobble.
  6. 6 Ready.

Tips

  • If you are using glue, do not use too much. If the bridge collapses, the problem isn't a lack of glue.
  • To build a proper foundation for a bridge, you need to plan everything down to the smallest detail. The bridge must have not only the necessary support but also additional support.
  • Do not use white glue, it must be transparent.
  • Cut off the sharp end of the hairpin with garden shears or a sharp knife.

Warnings

  • Do not cut yourself and prick yourself with hairpins.

What do you need

  • Hairpins
  • Thread
  • Transparent glue (super glue is better)
  • Knife or garden shears.
