Zombie! These cold and slow grave risers are popular choices for scary Halloween costumes. Fortunately, the zombie costume is easy enough to make yourself. Just choose for yourself which zombie you will portray, prepare the clothes in which he will be dressed, apply the appropriate make-up - and you are ready for a costume party or a zombie mob.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Choosing a Zombie Type

1. 1 Dress up as a "traditional" zombie. If you need to create a classic zombie costume, go the traditional way. Transform into a dumb wandering zombie with a shuffling gait and a dead gaze. This type of zombie does not require any special clothing. Use whatever you can find on hand, such as old jeans and T-shirts.
2. 2 Make a special zombie costume. You might want to create a zombie themed costume, such as a zombie-turned princess or a ballerina. In this case, try to transform the cute initial image into something terrible and completely wrong.
   • If you want the costume to be especially realistic, use stage blood.
   • It is in this case that last year's outfit may come in handy, it can be remade into a zombie costume, if you do not mind ruining things during this procedure.
   • You can also just become an interesting zombie by wearing a special type of clothing. A zombie can be a cheerleader, a pizza delivery man, or a smart prom party.
3. 3 Create costumes for a couple or a group of zombies. It will be funny to dress up as a couple or a whole group of zombies with your friends. Sometimes in the best costume contests there are special nominations for the category of group costumes.
   • Become a couple of zombies, for example, a bride and groom, or perhaps some famous couple of historical figures who have risen from the dead.
   • Become a whole family of zombies! Mom, Dad, sister and brother can all have fun as the living dead.
   • Try looking for a bridal outfit at a thrift store.
4. 4 Make a famous character into a zombie. Do you have a favorite superhero, a character from children's fairy tales or from Disney cartoons? Choose a suitable hero for yourself and turn him into a zombie!
   • Just make sure you have a costume that identifies you as the appropriate character. For example, you can always whip up something that looks like Little Red Riding Hood's costume.
   • This is a great tactic when your old hero costume is already worn out and in poor condition. Since you need to give the zombie a shabby and shabby look, it is better to use things that are far from perfect condition for making it.

Part 2 of 3: Making the Costume

1. 1 Give your clothes a faded or stained look. Zombies don't wear brand new clothes, so your clothes need to look old to match the look. There are several ways in which you can achieve this effect using available household tools.
   • Use a spray bottle of water and a few drops of brown or black food coloring, coffee, or black tea to age the look of your garment. This method works well for light colored items and makes them stained, dirty and worn out.
   • Treat clothes unevenly with the solution to make the aging effect more realistic.
   • Use a one-to-one mixture of bleach and water to achieve a "fade" effect. Zombies wander in the sun, so their clothes fade and look old. This method works well for giving a worn-out look to dark clothing.
2. 2 Tear clothes into rags. Zombies, when wandering, stumble and cling to everything, so for more realism, their clothes should be torn. Use a ripper or knife to rip the garment in several places, or scrub individual areas of the garment with a rasp. Also, don't be afraid to create small holes with your hands.
   • To make the rips look realistic, they must be randomly spaced, varying in size and the degree of frayed edges.
   • Remember to keep the clothes on you, so don't get too carried away with rips and tears!
   • The holes in your zombie suit should not violate the rules of decency.
3. 3 Cover your clothes with dirt and mildew. Go outside with your clothes and rub them on dirt and soil to make the zombie costume look dirty. Add mold to the suit by mixing liquid latex with oatmeal and letting dry in selected areas of your outfit.
   • If you have enough time right before the costume event, you can always bury your outfit in the open air for a week to age.
   • Liquid latex can be found in fancy dress stores, large supermarkets, and online.
4. 4 Stain your clothes with "blood". Zombies are always strewn with wounds and stained with blood, so add traces of it to your suit to create the appropriate effect. Use a store-bought stage blood, or make it yourself, and then sprinkle it on your clothes with your hands or apply the bloody stains with a sponge.
   • Then be sure to step back a couple of steps from the suit to see how it looks from a distance.
   • A simple recipe for making stage blood is to mix corn syrup and a few drops of red food coloring. After that, a little chocolate syrup is added there to thicken and darken the resulting blood.
5. 5 Singe clothing that is not flammable. Perform this step with extreme caution.Take a lighter and hold it close to your clothes to set it on fire in places and give the costume a classic zombie look.
   • Never try to set the suit on fire directly on yourself!
   • This work should be done outdoors, away from flammable objects and keep a fire extinguisher handy.

Part 3 of 3: Preparing the Makeup

1. 1 Make yourself wrinkles with liquid latex. Apply a thin layer of liquid latex to your face using a sponge, then stretch the skin vigorously while blow-drying the latex. This will give your face an old tired look.
   • Do this before applying makeup to make your wrinkles appear deeper.
   • If you are allergic to latex, you can easily make your own liquid latex substitute. Mix 240 ml of cold water, 60 ml of tapioca (cassava flour), 1 packet of regular gelatin and 15 ml of hard coconut oil.
2. 2 Use makeup to make your face pale. Make your face pale with very pale natural makeup. That being said, you shouldn't let your natural skin tone give you a lively look!
   • Don't make the face blue or green, as zombie faces tend to have earthy hues.
3. 3 Make your tongue look dead with food coloring. Zombies don't have pink tongues, so put a few drops of black food coloring in your mouthwash and rinse your mouth with it. This will give your tongue and mouth a perfectly dead look.
4. 4 Create the illusion of sunken eyes. Make your eyes sunken with dark purple-brown eyeshadow around the sockets and on the lower and upper eyelids.
   • Darken your eyelids yourself with a black eyeliner over the purple-brown eyeshadow.
5. 5 Put on colored contact lenses. Colored contact lenses are a great way to dim the life in your eyes. Try red, green, or any other dark colored lens.
   • Colored lenses should only be purchased with a doctor's prescription, even if they are not corrective. Visit an optometrist for appropriate advice and a prescription.
6. 6 Create open wounds on the face and body with liquid latex. Mix some liquid latex with cotton wool, paper towels, or toilet paper, and then apply it to your face or hand. Allow the mixture to half-cure and then start tearing it apart. Use a sponge to paint the wound in dark earthy tones, and then add stage blood there.
   • If the latex wound must extend over the scalp, first apply a layer of petroleum jelly to the hair.
   • Once you're done playing the zombie role, the latex can be simply torn off and removed from the skin.
7. 7 Add traces of blood to the face and body. Use a Q-tip to add blood smears to your face and body.
   • Blood can be either smeared or shaped like drops.
   • Don't stop there and try drawing yourself a bleeding nose!
8. 8 Tousle your hair and give it a greasy look. Don't forget that the zombie hair also needs to look unsightly for the look to be complete. Comb your hair with a comb and tangle it up. Use hairspray to keep your tousled hair in place. To make your hair look greasy and messy, apply hair conditioner before drying.
   • If desired, tinted hairsprays can be found to give blonde hair a richer black or brown color. Try searching online stores for them.
   • Get creative and include leaves or twigs in your crumpled hair.
   • If you're worried about damaging your hair or don't want to worry about brushing it later, just buy a cheap wig that you can ruin.

Tips

• Experiment with fabrics and makeup ahead of time so you have plenty of time to prepare for the event and fix your costume flaws.
• Buy fake makeup scars. Clip them to your face, neck, arms and other parts of your body for an extra effect!
