1 Prepare yourself. Before you try to kickflip, get comfortable on the board.
  • You should know your skateboard and all its parts well, be able to keep balance and be able to do ollies.
  • You can learn to kickflip while moving or standing still - it depends on your preference.
  • Some find it easier to learn a trick on the move, others find it easier to practice the technique on the spot first.
  • 2 Place your feet correctly. The first thing to look at is the position of your feet on the board:
    • Place your front foot just behind the screws, turning your foot outward 45 degrees.
    • Place the toe of your back foot on the tail of the board.
  • 3 Ollie. Surely you already know how to do an ollie, but let us remind you:
    • Bend your front leg at the knee and transfer all your weight to the toe of your back leg.
    • Raise the front of the board by hitting the tail of the board with your back foot, and then jump.
    • Try to make the ollie as high as possible, this will give you more time to complete the clickflip.
  • 4 Click the board with your front foot. While in the air, push your front foot up towards the heel over the sandpaper, and as soon as the foot slides into the bend of the board, kick your toe on the edge to spin the skate.
    • This movement is quite difficult, so make sure you fully understand how to do it before you try. Make sure your foot slides up the edge of the board, not down. Otherwise, your feet will end up at the bottom of the board and you won't be able to land properly.
    • Do not hit the board too hard, or it may just fly away from you. Also, bounce high enough to lift your back foot off the board (but not as high as your front foot).
  • 5 Catch the skateboard with your back foot and then with your front foot. After the skateboard has made a full turn in the air, catch it with your back foot and land on it. Once your back foot has caught the board, your front foot should do the same.
    • To find out when the board has made a full turn in the air, look at it while jumping, even if it is not easy.Try to time it correctly and land with your feet on the front and rear bolts.
    • It is also important to remember that the shoulders should be at the same level (one shoulder should not be higher than the other) and you need to turn to face forward in the direction of travel. This will help you keep your balance when landing.
  • 6 Bend your knees as you land. Once your board touches the ground, bend your knees to soften the impact.
    • It will also help you maintain control of the skateboard.
    • If you kickflip in motion, just keep rolling and try to look cool.
  • 7 Practice, practice, practice. Kickflip is one of the most difficult basic tricks, so it will take you a while to complete it perfectly. Never get discouraged - keep trying until you succeed.
  • Part 2 of 2: Kickflip Variations

    1. 1 Double kikflip. A double kickflip is when the board flips over “twice” in the air. The technique is the same as in the allie trick, but you need to hit the board harder and harder. You can also try doing a triple kickflip where the board rotates three times before landing.
    2. 2 Varial kickflip. Varial kickflip is a combination of two tricks - kickflip and shove-it - where the board turns 180 degrees while spinning in the air. To shove, hit the tail towards the heel with your back foot, and then flick the toe of your front foot on the board to do a flip.
    3. 3 Body varial kickflip (kickflip body varial). In this trick, it is no longer the board, but the skater himself changes his position in the air. The essence of this particular trick is that the skater turns 180 degrees in the air and lands in the starting position.
    4. 4 Kickflip Indy (kickflip indy). For this trick, you do a normal kickflip, but launch the board a little further than usual and touch your hand to the nose of the board before landing. For this trick, you must roll quickly and jump high.
    5. 5 Kickflip underflip. Kick-flip-under-flip is a trick for advanced skaters and requires serious preparation. After the board has completed its rotation during the kickflip, you need to flick the toe on the board so that it begins to rotate in the opposite direction.

    Tips

    • There is no universal leg position in kickflip, try different options for the position of the front leg, how much heels should hang from the board, and at what angle to put the toe.
    • Remain calm and work hard. Mastering kickflip takes dedication and patience; don't give up if you didn't succeed the first time!

    Warnings

    • If you hit the board incorrectly, then it may not twist horizontally, but vertically and hit you between your legs. Get a so-called “credit card,” which is pretty frustrating, so try to do the trick correctly.
