Medium Density Fiberboard, or MDF, is an inexpensive material made up of pressurized and heat pressurized wood fibers that is used to create wood sections. The units can be used in a number of building projects such as making lightweight shelving, tables and even kitchen units. Finishing MDF can be done in many ways, depending on the conditions for further use. I am glad that relatively little time and effort can be spent on finishing wood products.

Steps

1. 1 Prepare MDF for finishing. This is achieved by grinding the surface to a perfectly smooth finish. Use clean rags to remove any traces left on the surface after sanding or manual handling of the material for later use as part of a rack, cabinet or table structure.The whole point is to remove any dust or other residue that could cause bubbles or cracks after finishing.
2. 2 Determine the type of finish you want. As a rule, the criterion for choosing the finishing is the harmonious compliance of MDF with the interior of the room where it will be located. In some cases, by choosing one or more colors for painting, corresponding to the room space, you can easily integrate the painted part into the interior of the room. For rooms with many open varnished wooden surfaces, the best option for finishing MDF may be the use of wood stain.
3. 3 Start the finishing process. If it is painting, apply a layer of primer to the MDF surface to help the paint adhere better. After the primer is dry, start painting. To dye, dampen a clean rag with paint and rub it over the MDF surface, taking care to follow the pattern of the compressed wood fibers. In both cases, make sure the top layer is even and has a uniform appearance.
4. 4 Apply sealant. After the stain or paint has dried, use a clear sealant or varnish to protect the outside of the finished MDF. This will help avoid scratches that could ruin the look. Make sure the sealant is applied evenly over the entire surface and allow it to dry before replacing the assembly part.

Tips

• In addition to being inexpensive and lightweight compared to natural wood, MDF can also be very durable. This makes it an ideal material for making small pieces of furniture in children's rooms and other furniture throughout the home. Since good quality MDF looks similar to treated wood, the material can be successfully used in a number of home projects.
• Always provide good ventilation in the rooms where the decoration is being carried out, it is advisable that windows and doors are open for a steady flow of air through the room. Depending on the type of paint you are using, it may be a good idea to use a face shield.
