Clay pots are a wonderful container for growing plants. They do not retain water, are inexpensive, and are available in all stores. Their only drawback is that they look very boring and monotonous, especially when you put them on the windowsill or on the veranda. You have every chance to bring them to life by reading our article on how to paint them.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Use a spray paint can

  1. 1 Place newspapers on the floor or in your work area.
  2. 2 Place the pot upside down on them.
  3. 3 Bring a can of paint to the pot at a distance of 20 to 25 cm.
  4. 4 Apply a thin coat of paint to the surface of the pot, turning the pot as needed.
  5. 5 If you want your pot to have a strip, then when the first coat of paint is dry, remove the masking tape from the pot that you should have previously wrapped around it before painting. Cover the painted surface of the pot with it and apply a layer of paint of a different color to the unpainted area.

Method 2 of 3: Use acrylic paint

  1. 1 Take two tubes of acrylic paint.
  2. 2 Cut the masking tape into strips and glue them vertically and at regular intervals to the sides of the pot.
  3. 3 Apply a lighter color to the open parts of the pot, going over the stripes a little. Let the paint dry and, if necessary, top up with a second coat. Let the paint dry again and remove the strips.
  4. 4 Apply masking tape over the painted strips. Make sure the paint is completely dry to prevent it from sticking to the tape. If, however, small areas come off when you remove the strips, then paint over them with a brush or stick some jewelry on them.
  5. 5 Paint the new areas with a different color and after the paint is dry, remove the strips.
  6. 6 Take a thin paintbrush and paint some patterns on the stripes. To paint polka dots, apply paint with the tip of a brush pen.

Method 3 of 3: Use a stencil

  1. 1 Apply a thin layer of acrylic paint to the entire surface of the pot.
  2. 2 Trace a drawing from a coloring book, greeting card, or magazine onto tissue paper.
  3. 3 Glue the paper to the pot. Place a transfer paper under it and transfer the design to the side of the pot.
  4. 4 Paint over the drawing with acrylic paint.
  5. 5 You can repeat the pattern or decorate it with dots, lines, or other patterns.

Tips

  • To keep your drawing as long as possible, cover it with acrylic varnish.

Warnings

  • Do not paint inside the earthen pot, so as not to paint over the drainage holes.
