Uber lets you book a taxi ride right from your phone, tablet or computer. To check if this service is available in your city (or the city you are traveling to), visit the checkout page on the Uber website. Another option is to download the Uber app and set up an account. The app will tell you if the service is available in your city. Even if the service is not available right now, it will automatically work when you go to a city where there is Uber.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Checking on the Uber site

1. 1 Open the page in the browser Find a city.
2. 2 Enter an address, city name, or postal code into the search box. A list of possible matches will appear below the search box.
3. 3 Click on the city that matches your search term. If the service is available in that city, a confirmation message will be displayed on the screen.
   • Using the same method, you can check if Uber Eats (food delivery) and Uber Rush (express delivery service) are available, but these services are much less common. The Uber Rush service is currently only available to residents of the United States (as of March 2018), however, soon it is promised to be launched in Russia.
   • If Uber is not available in your city, try hailing a taxi.

Method 2 of 2: Downloading the App

1. 1 Download and run the Uber app with App Store or Play Store. Tap Install and then Open when the app is installed.
2. 2 Tap "Register".
3. 3 Fill out the registration form and tap "Next". Enter your name, email address, password and phone number. A confirmation code will be sent to your phone via SMS.
4. 4 Enter the confirmation code you received and tap Next. After that, you will be taken to the page for entering your billing information.
5. 5 Enter your billing information to complete your account registration. Enter a valid credit card number and expiration date. The blue dot indicates your current location, and the pin indicates the location from where you need to be picked up.
6. 6 Click on a driver to check the availability of each service. Each service is presented as a button in the bottom row of the application (uberX, uberXL, Select, Access or taxi). The pin indicates the approximate time it takes for the nearest car to reach you. It also indicates the availability of the service. If the service is not available, the pin will say “No cars available”.
   • uberX is a standard service from Uber, uberXL provides travel in a larger vehicle, Select provides trains in luxury vehicles, and Access provides disabled access.
   • Move the pin to change the location from where you need to be picked up. At the same time, the approximate time it takes for the car to reach you will also change.
   • The nearest cars are shown on the map, and their current location is updated every few seconds.
