Do you have a very long audio file and need to split it in two, or just trim part of the song? We will show you how to do this.

Steps

1. 1 Download and install the Audacity program. Here is the link http://www.download.com/3001-2170_4-10606824.html
2. 2 Download and install lame-3.96.1 - here http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~raa110/audacity/lame.html (any version).
3. 3 Extract the file named lame_enc.dll from the LAME .zip archive. Save it to your computer. Remember the folder it is in.
4. 4 Open Audacity, go to File> Open, then select the audio file you want to trim or split.
5. 5 In the upper right corner of the window, the "I" option must be selected.
6. 6 To move the cursor to different places in the audio file, use the arrows on the keyboard, or just drag it with the mouse.
7. 7 Select the part of the audio file that you want to cut. To do this, just hold down the mouse button and move the cursor, for example, if you want to select a record from 0: 00: 0 minutes to 30: 00: 0, then put the cursor at the beginning of the record, hold down the left mouse button and move the cursor until 30 minutes.Can be used to select an arrow on the keyboard while holding down the Shift key.
8. 8 If you have selected a part of the audio that you do not need, simply delete it by pressing Del. If you have selected the part of the file that you want to keep, deleting or separating everything else from it, open the Edit menu (next option after File) and press Copy (or just Ctrl + C).
9. 9 Now open the File> New menu.
10. 10 In the new window, choose Edit> Paste (or just Ctrl + V).
11. 11 Open File> Export.
12. 12 Select the format and folder for exporting the file. For example, if it is an audio book, then: "Chapter 1," "Chapter 2," etc. It is better to choose MP3 as the format.
13. 13 You will be presented with the option to edit ID3 tags. It's not obligatory. Leave the title untouched, in the Author field write the name of the author, then specify the name of the Album. (You will have to load the LAME file that you downloaded earlier into the program)
14. 14 Repeat if necessary.
