Have you ever bought new boots that turned out to be too tight, but it was no longer possible to exchange or return them? Before getting into tight shoes and rubbing blisters on yourself, you can try stretching your boots with ice at home. It's a quick and easy way to start wearing your shoes - a little trick and you're done!

Steps

  1. 1 Fill freezer bags with water. Fill two plastic bags with water, one for each shoe. Use either special freezer plastic bags or sturdy plastic bags that won't rip when the water turns to ice. Depending on which part of the boots you want to make wider, the amount of water in the bag can vary:
    • Sock: 1/4 bag
    • Toe and instep: 1/2 bag
    • Toe, instep and ankle area: 1 / 2-1 / 3 bag
  2. 2 Check the packages. Make sure you tie or close the bags well and remove excess air from them. This prevents the bag from swelling in the freezer and allows the water to take on the shape of your boots, so it will be easier for you to stuff the bags of water into your boots.
  3. 3 Put the bags in your shoes. Be careful that the bags do not come loose or rip when you put them in your boots.
    • Try to tuck the bags as close to the toes of your boots as possible (especially if you are stretching the boots in this area).
  4. 4 Place your boots in the freezer. Leave the boots with the water packs in the freezer for at least 4-8 hours. This gives the water enough time to turn into ice.
  5. 5 Take out ice packs. Let the boots sit at room temperature for at least 20 minutes before measuring and removing the ice packs. Letting the ice melt a little will make it much easier to get the bags out.
    • If the water in the bags has melted, but you still cannot get the bags out of your shoes, just wait a while until the ice has completely melted, or you can try to break the ice.
    • These two options are better than trying to pull the bags out at the risk of tearing them, as water can spill into the boots and damage the shoes.

Tips

  • Try to stretch your shoes a little, especially leather shoes. If you stretch the leather boots too much, there is no way you can shrink them back.
  • Make sure the bags are not leaking anywhere before putting them in your shoes.
