Learn how to use the My Story feature to create a 24-hour Snapchat feed of photos and videos.Friends can view the pictures and videos you have added an unlimited number of times within 24 hours.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Taking a Snapshot

  1. 1 Start Snapchat. Open the camera interface to be able to take pictures.
  2. 2 Take a picture. Click on the large button at the bottom of the screen to take a photo, or hold it down to record a 10-second video.
    • To add a lens effect, click on the camera screen before taking a photo. Swipe left or right to view different effects.
    • Users can revise regular snapshots once by clicking on the snapshot immediately after viewing.
    • A snapshot or video added to a Story can be viewed an unlimited number of times over the next 24 hours until it disappears.
  3. 3 Set a timer for the photo. It determines how long the snapshot will be displayed on the screen before the next snapshot appears in the story. By default, the duration is set to 3 seconds. Click on the timer in the lower left corner of the screen to extend or shorten this time.
  4. 4 Add stickers, decals, drawings and filters (optional). Click on a picture to add a caption to it. Click on the Scissors button to create your own sticker by selecting part of the image with your finger and dragging the sticker onto the screen. Click on the Stickers button to add emoji stickers to your photo. The Pencil button lets you draw on the picture. Swipe left and right to display the available filters.
  5. 5 Click on the Story button. It's at the bottom of the screen and looks like a rectangle with a "+" in the corner.
    • Alternatively, you can click on the blue Send To button in the lower right corner of the screen and select "My Story" as the destination. This method allows you to send a snapshot to individual users as well as upload it to a story.
    • Select individual users to send them only the current photo or video, not the entire story.
  6. 6 Click Add. If you are near a place that supports posting public Stories, it will appear under the “My Story” category from where you can select it as a recipient.
  7. 7 Click Send in the lower right corner of the screen. The snapshot or video will be added to your story, as well as any flagged public story for the next 24 hours.
    • If this is your first time adding a story, you will be asked to enable Snapchat to access geolocation services and allow the snapshot to be shown for 24 hours. Geolocation services are needed in order to mark pictures with the corresponding location on the map.

Part 2 of 3: Viewing and Editing History

  1. 1 Swipe left on the camera screen. This will take you to the Stories screen.
  2. 2 Click on ⋮ next to My Story to display the snapshots in the story. The most recent images are at the top, followed by the older ones.
  3. 3 Click on the snapshot. On the next screen, you can see how many people viewed the photo and how many took the screenshot. If you want to remove a snapshot from history, click on the trash can icon.
    • You can only delete one snapshot from history at a time.
    • Click on the download icon (box with a downward-pointing arrow) in the lower right corner of the screen to save the photo or video to your phone.
  4. 4 View your friends' stories. To do this, click on the History button on the stories screen. It is found under the phrase "My Story". The stories with the most recent snapshots are at the top.

Part 3 of 3: Setting up your privacy

  1. 1 Swipe left on the camera screen. After that, you will be taken to the history screen.
    • By default, all your friends can view your story. This can be changed in the settings menu.
  2. 2 Click ⚙️ next to My Story. After that, you will see who can view your story.
  3. 3 Set the privacy level. Select “Everyone” to make your story public, “My Friends” to allow users from the “Friends” or “Custom” list to view the story. If you select Custom, you will be asked to specify friends whom you will not allow to view your story.
