Steps

1. 1 Pour some water onto the terrace with a hose to see how waterproof the flooring is.

2. 2 Select a sealant for insulation that matches the type of wood flooring. Typically, sealants are universal and suitable for all types of wood.

• If you want to maintain the original color of the wood flooring, use a clear sealant. If you plan to change the color, use a colored or stain-based sealant.
• In order to properly clean the surface of the terrace before applying the sealant, carry out a professional cleaning. However, you can simply rinse the surface with water and then wipe it dry. This is usually enough.

Warnings

• The sealant contains hazardous chemicals. Be careful not to get them in your eyes or mouth. Be sure to wear gloves and goggles to protect your eyes.
• Typically, a special washer is used to wash the wood flooring, not a hose. However, such a machine can damage fragile or old wood surfaces, leaving scratches. If you are in doubt about the strength of the wood, it is best to use a hose.
• Waterproof wood flooring is not necessarily durable. Make sure the flooring is free from rotten boards before applying sealant. Replace rotten wood.
